It's not nearly as bad as one would think. The hype is what gets you all worked up (jokes, reference to 'about as fun as a root canal'). Have no fear, I had one, and it wasn't that bad. They gave me nitrous oxide and some meds for the pain afterward. Really not much worse than having a cavity taken care of. Take care!

I've only had 1 done, but it didn't hurt at all. They use novocaine so it deadens the nerve. It's no worse than getting a filling. I had the root canal and a crown put on at the same visit and then drove 6 hrs to Chicago. No problem
There are dentists now that use what they call sleep dentistry, where they actually put you out with a pill.
Don't worry. It's better than the pain from an infected tooth.

I am not going to lie. I had a root canal yesterday and I do not agree that it is the least painful procedure. Remember that everyones pain threshold is different so whats painful for me, may not be for you. In most cases it needs to be done in two visits because it is such a long procedure. What hurt most for me was the clamp that goes around the tooth receiving the root canal. If you feel any pain from that be sure to let the densist know. In my case, anesthetic doesnt work very great so I needed several shots to make me numb enough to complete the procedure. If its available to you I would make sure to ask for nitrous oxide. It will be worth it. I was so nervous I was shaking the entire time, not from pain, just nerves. Remember, pain is different for everyone and if anthing hurts even a little, let the dentist know!

Nope. Getting a plain 'ol crown was much worse since the root remains to cause problems. Root canals are easy and pain-free.

You have the same experience as with a cavity being filled but it takes longer.
Having to do those things that are awful and having to pay money to have it done is the worst.

NOW DAYS they have so much new medicines for dentests it; should not be that bad, what might hurt alittle is when they numb your mouth with a shot to where your bad teeth go. after that it is just noise .you won;t feel nothing. my son is 9 and he had a filling;they used no needles or anything. tell your dentest your alittle scard and they can be extra gentle... good-luck

They're not as bad as they're made out to be, I've had 7. If its frozen well, the only pain you have is afterwards, and that can be resolved with tylenol. It's better to try to save the tooth than to yank it out.
