This is quick:

1lb deli roast beef
1 jar home-style beef gravy (or beef mushroom)
1 small box mashed potato mix (for 4-5 servings)
Texas toast bread

Heat gravy, mix in roast beef, make potatoes, toast bread. to plate: place toast and potatoes on plated, top with roast beef gravy mixture, enjoy.

Does this sound like what you are looking for?

Based on what I found out, it is a like a regular hotbeef except for how the meat is prepared:

roast beef hot shot. A regular lunch item, available as a whole sandwich or a half, this is a large amount of hot roast beef hacked into the consistency of hash and infused with gravy, then sandwiched on white bread and served with mashed potatoes, all of which are blanketed with more brown gravy.

From what I gather, this is an Ohio Valley thing. But I love a hot beef so I know I would like this too......Hope it helps.

Try this; get a focaccia (perfect for finger sandwiches) and make a sandwich with proschiutto (or any other italian ham) with smoked mozzarella or provolone cheese with roasted red peppers. Try a red wine viniagrette as a dressing.

take some cooked roast beef that is cooked and slice as thin as you can add this to 2 slices of bread and slice into a triangle then plate in the center place a scoop of mashed potatoes (inthe center of triangle on platenot on bread) and make a hole in the mashed potaoes....and cover with brown gravy.......
