I used to be a believer. I am perfectly happy being atheist. But sometimes I do miss believing in god, it can be comforting. So with that in mind, I am not sure what to do about my 3 kids. What should I tell them about god and all that?

You should let your heart decide on what path you want to follow. Don't just follow a certain path because of your family, that could cause you to become un-happy with the fact of believing, because you would be forcing yourself to do something for someone else. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's not. You can do it that way, but I would suggest letting your heart guide you to where you want to be. If that comfort is something that you miss, then maybe you should go back, it could be a calling of somesort, you never know. I'm Agnostic, so I believe in what I see, and what I know. Following your heart is the best suggestion I can give. As for your kids, if they're still rather young, and you want them to grow up to be better off then the rest of these punks walking the streets, I would suggest taking them to church, and teaching them fullheartedly about how much respect and prosperity there is in knowing about what is good, and what isn't. It could lead to them be soul-believers, and never leaving the path, or, becoming a rebel, that'll just depend on their faith as they grow. It could help keep them away from doing drugs, drinking, causing, or getting into fights, more-or-less, keep them straightened up. Should they ever fall off of that path, they will recieve the punishments that come with it. I should know, I've been a Christian, Satanist, Wiccan, Atheist. I've seen what can come of each, and what the causes of being one is. If you want a good life, with much respect and little problems, deciet, etc. Stick with being a Christian. Atheism can cause some problems with people, just depends on how much you show it, etc. Satanism, well, we won't go there with that one.....Wiccan, not too bad, just depends on how you treat it and the others like you, as well as the others around you that are different. It can be rewarding, but, on the other hand, it has it's downfalls. I'm not going to start a debate, so no more details. These are just my thoughts and opinions. You decide. Don't know if I was of any help, but yeah, your welcome if it was.

If you miss it at times, then it's really still in your heart. It is comforting. So, when the kids ask, tell them what you've learned of religion. Let your husband aslo speak with them. Let them make their own decisions on thheir views and their choice of religion, unless of course if your husband attends a church and wants them to join him.

Well one thing I don't see how you can live without Jesus in your life!! I mean I can't picture my life complete without Jesus! You need to let your kids make their own decision. You know if they believe in God they will find a way to get to him! But you need to let them know that their is this person who is above all things!

give them all sides of the story and let them make the final decision on their own. if you are missing god, start going to church or finding ways to impliment god into your life. you don't have to believe to listen and find comfort in him. it may help you in trying to raise your children. all the best of luck to you.

I am in the same situation. I did have my twins baptized when they were born ( I guess it's that old catholic guilt) now they are 14. We have discussions when they come up and I tell them both sides..but never quite give them definite answers. I am letting them decide for themselves.

This is something you should have thought about before converting or having children. Faith is something that should be mutual between couples, especially with children.

It's up to you. My advice is to teach them about many different religions, including atheism, and then let them choose what they want to do. And do it objectively, not subjectively.

Tell them all you know. When they are old enough let them decide for their selves.
