The 'new' Beetle is nothing more than a re-bodied Golf.
The original Beetle was designed by Dr Ferdinand Porsche. The similarity between the original Beetle and the first Porsches is very clear to see.
Check out the 356 and you will see.

The above link is for a book called the Volkswagen Chronicle, which is a very interesting read (plus cheap as well) if your want to learn more about the VW/Porsche connection. While most people know about the early connections, it covers projects they where working on together into the 70's. For example look at the 914, it even sold badged with the name "VW-Porsche" in Europe. So, while they are two different companies, they are both closely connected and shared many designs. Are they the same? No, but they are two closely related companies that have benefited hugely from each others designs/ideas.

It's like asking if Chimpanzees are human. Same lineage. 99% identical genetic makeup, but distant cousins at best... Both companies were started by the same man. You can exchange early porche engines for Volkswagen engines on both cars. Porche runs a little better, but VW was designed to be more economical and practical.

no this is some peoples way of describing the new beetle ,but it was not built on the principal of the Porsche,it was a separate design,,it does have some of the features but they were added to enhance the beetle,,but a lot of vehicle s have similar things in common,,good luck i hope this help,s
