There is a saying "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Faith is fine, but blind faith can be disastrous. Blind faith encourages the corruption of absolute power.
There is no more absolute power than the power gained from some Deity. In the name of god, millions of people have been slaughtered as infidels, heretics, or non believers. This has been going on as long as recorded history (and probably before that).
Power needs to be kept in check. That means not only questioning that power, but acting against it if it seems corrupted or, better yet, before it becomes corrupted.
Our U.S. Constitution is unique in that it recognizes the corruption that absolute power can bring. Thus, it calls for checks and balances on the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of our government..these are three potential sources of absolute power. Further, it also calls for the separation of church and state; so that religious zealots cannot wrest absolute power and the U.S. become a theocracy like Iran, UK, Norway, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. Religion is a fourth potential source of absolute power. [See source.]
Unfortunately, the U.S. Constitution failed to recognize a fifth source of power and consequent corruption...private enterprise. So the constitution provides no built in checks and balances against private enterprise from gaining control over our governments and churches; and, thereby, gaining abosulte power over the country.
To be sure, the U.S. has laws to check private enterprise, but they lack the foundation of its Constitution; and they are laws passed by the very people who can be corrupted by private enterprise. Relying on government people to pass adequate laws to keep private enterprise in check is like asking the fox to design a safe and secure hen house.

On a global scale, being ever faithful to powers saves more human lives because this prevents wars.. and wars costs more humans their lives.. than any other event.. and human life is usually what one must pay.. for the cost of freedom.

In the free world, it is not only our right, but our responsibility to question "great power." Who's interest are they protecting? Why are they protecting this interest and not that? What are the effects that will affect me?
Throughout history, there have been many of these so-called great leaders whom people did not questioned. We now see the results of our apathy and/or blind devotion. One word: Holocaust.

That depends upon the form of government which exists in your society. Within a democratic-republic such as that in America we must constantly question governmental officials regardless of political affiliations. However, such questionings must be done responsibly and not in a manner harm-full to the society as a whole. It all comes down to the individual. We are lucky in that we are guaranteed the right to question our government. The government serves the people and not the people to the government.

It's about making the right choices between the two. You can't always do the same thing in every circumstance.
