When I was a young mother and my kids we're screaming according to my mother in-law while I was driving she asked how I was able to put up with it. I told her that I zone them out, they are kids only for a while. If I had company like my mother in-law who could not take or as she say's it makes your father in-law nervous. Get paper, crayons, and have them make you a picture then make a big deal about it & hang on the frig and they will want to do more for everyone in your family. Just keep them busy, when they start screaming act like it doesn't bother you because they can sense it!!!!!! for example say hey guys lets do something like exercise get pillows off the sofa and make a course and run around the house & do push-up, sit-up whatever (some little project) Or lets see you can clean their room/pick up the their toys the fastest make a race., or sing this is the way we clean or room clean our room clean our room this is the way we clean our room so early in the morning. whatever make a song up. Then take them a bath give them a snack with milk and they will knock out for an hour or two. So you can get the cleaning, washing, or whatever you need to get done, It works I am a mother of four.

You're probably not going to like this answer...but WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?!?!?! There is no greater sound than hearing my 13 month old running through the house yelling and giggling and laughing...hollering about nothing in particular, except that he's having a great time just being himself! Let them be kids! They'll have plenty of time either when they start school, or while they're in school if they've already started, that they have to sit quietly...and even more once they get a job! Let them scream, let them run....Why does everyone want to stop their kids from being kids?!?! If you wanted to parent adults, you should've adopted!

duct tape, (just kidding)

Try to read to them, or put in a movie that they enjoy.

Also, if I were you, I would pop a couple of aspirin for your headache!

As an added note to everyone suggesting to give them sweets: this will only help to energize the little darlings and make them bounce off the walls MORE!! So try to stay away from that. Perhaps some warm cocoa and crackers.

what do you mean shut up two kids...from crying / screaming..etc. They are obviously bored out of their minds...give them something constructive to do instead of whatever they are doing. You can't expect a child to sit in front of a TV all day long and become intelligent.

Let them play outside a lot, or read to them when inside. Reading teaches them a lot about interrupting. If they're old enough you can talk to them about interrupting, but if they're younger you probably won't have much luck with that. My favorite saying is "hey, calm yourself". Sometimes it works, but I'm also near out of my mind with a 12 year old who yells everything (I think due to competing at school), and a 3 year old who is a total chatterbox.

Lock em in a dark cupboard?
Stick em in the shed whilst u enjoy a relaxing cuppa?
Ask their help in re-organising the contents of the loft then close the hatch?
Bound and gag them?

When u find the answer lemme know cos my 3 are doing my head in too....roll on bedtime!

Gin.

Or, if you don't want to get arrested, have you tried giving them a big piece of paper and some old magazines? Tell them to cut out picture from teh magazines and make collages. You didn't say how old they were....
