I don't know how you plan on quitting. Is it cold turkey, or the patch? My mother smoked for 19 years. She tried the patch, the nicotine but she would still smoke. My best friend smoked for 8 years and just quit so did my mother. I think the only advice I can give you is this, You have to be be tired of smoking. You should be 100% ready or you won't quit. You can quit cold turkey its possible. My mom quit cold turkey in Feb and has not touched one cig. My best friend quit 3 months ago and has not touched one either. You have to have the will to quit. If you're only 50% sure you want to quit, you won't quit. Give it 110%. You have to keep your mouth busy though, for example my friend bought toothpicks, and lollipops to keep busy to reduce the cravings. lol as ridiculous as it sounds it has worked.

Try to increase the time between smokes by a few minutes or any time of your choosing and you should hit a point of quitting. Put a bunch of used cigarettes in a glass water, the smell alone may make you quit. just walk away from the smoking people. Try to get them to quit, too.

I quit cold turkey. It really is easy. Do what I did!

1. Get on a bicycle.
2. Go to a busy intersection.
3. Get hit by a truck.
4. Spend several days in the hospital without cigarettes.
5. Move in with your Mom(if she doesn't allow it) until you can walk again.

No more smoking!

I smoked for almost 10 years and I'm not gonna lie to you, quitting is hard. In my case, I put on weight and my levels of anxiety where really high.
I couldn't have done it without nicotine patches (I used them for 5 days approx), without my bf (he quit with me) and specially without my will and determination to quit. I would recommend you buy the patches, drink a lot of water, buy carrots or lollipops or something like that to replace the cigarettes. If you don't want to put on weight, you have to accelerate your metabolism, so start running or exercising. It will also help that, whenever you feel like smoking, you go somewhere or do something that you can't smoke, for example: go for a walk, take a long shower. You have to start replacing your old habit with new ones.
I'm sure your wife will be by your side in every step.
Good luck and congratulations.
Ahh, it also helps to get rid of all the ashtrays and lighters and packs of cigarettes you have in your house, at work, in the car

It is not easy, it has been one year for me tomorrow. I still want one, but I realize that I am an addict, if I smoke one I will smoke more. I used transdermal patches, one week for each level, and just never smoked again. Grumpy, insomnia, hungry, and just plain irritating is how I was when I quit, so I am glad I used the patches.. Good luck

Go to www.emofree.com and search for examples of how people have stopped smoking and reduced craving of all types including drugs by tapping on the bodys acupuncture points to stimulate the flow of energy thru the energy meridians. With some study you can learn how to reduce all negative emotions and reinforce positive goal setting by the same techniques. Try it. It WILL be worth your efforts, because it works.

i smoked for five years and my advice for smoking is pray that the lord give you a desire to quit i also find that 3-7 day retreats are helpful take a vacation were it is impossible for you to get a cigarette withdraws will come (fight it ) you will have no choose because no cigarettes are around take a piece of chocolate with you this will calm down the craving take ear phones and music close your eyes meditate on the desires of your heart i cant express it enough but you have to pray (good luck)

Ask your doctor about Wellbutrin. I know quite a few people that have tried it and have completely quit smoking.
