Many belong to homeschool associations that organize weekly (or more often) outings for the kids. Many have special youth groups for different age sets. Also, most homeschool parents get their kids involved in scouting of one type or another. Another social outlet is organized sports that meet either seasonally (like sports at the Y) or year round (like tae kwon do). The last (and certainly not least important) is getting their kids involved in youth programs at their church.

I think that would all depend on the parents or care givers. I definitely think it is important for children to socialize to develop communication skills. If I ever home schooled my children I would also get them involved in activities outside the home, like sports. I would further bring education to them by direct experience, like trips to museums, zoo's, etc...and plan the trips with other parents and children. Here in Maine they have the "Alfond youth center," where they have absolutely great opportunnities for children to take part in many groups, to learn many different skills, and they also have an after school program for socializing. It all comes down to the quality of the home schooling, that really counts. I think this is the most important skill children need to develop. My Grandfather was very intelligent, but his people skills were disastrous for his goals in life. When he did have someone to talk to, he would drive them away, including his kids. I felt sorry for him. He never advanced in his work, and became bitter, VERY, VERY BITTER! I consider myself only average intelligent, but my people skills get me where i want to go, and also help me to get others where they want to go in life.

Of course they do, did you think they were locked in a closet? LOL ... okay, just kidding. But yes, they do have social activities. Depending on your school district, home-school kids can partcipate in some classes at the local school like physical education and music classes. Again, depending on your school district, the child can be eligible to compete in some school-sponsered sports. There is always the local "parks and recreation department" programs for sports and physical education, plus church and such.

My son is home schooled and is very socialized. He attends events that are library hosts and there are neighborhood children that he plays with. We are NOT religious freaks. He has plenty of friends that go to public school and fits in nicely. He doesn't feel different.

i'd like a college that taught them in accordance to their own needs and enable them boost at their own p.c... i trust the stress it somewhat is placed on youthful toddlers to all be an identical is incorrect. we are no longer all an identical and we each and each study in yet in a unique way and we should not be anticipated to all be an identical. college needs to be extra of a nurturing environment and a lot less of a authorities/military ran gadget.

DONT HOMESCHOOL!!! It's is the most crippling thing you could do to a child. They end up being oversheltered and just plain weird. I work with my youth group at church and we can all pick out the homeschool kids bc they never talk to anyone but the adult leaders and when they talk to us, theyre just wierd. They dont have good communication or people skills. So dont do it. Just say no!

We have some that participate in sports at our local school. Most of them are from conservative Christian families who don't want the evils of a secular education rotting their kids (retarded huh?). My son observed years ago that the Christian kids have no tolerance for their own failure and were not mentally stable. I guess that comes from a philosophy that teaches them they are evil and no good by nature and when they strike out they are being punished by God.
