I thought it might help me next time i go crabbing.

Yep....they are mostly scavengers feeding on other dead sea animals and they do eat some algae.

Good bait for crabs is chicken innards/parts that have been left out of the refrigerator for a few days to help them smell a little. Liver is good bait also. Anything that has that blood odor.

Crabs smell the "dead" flesh and will be attracted to it. That is why the pro crab fishermen use chunks of fish, chicken, etc. in the crab traps.

i have to agree with dick on this one, here in south carolina, we use liver or fish heads...crabs are like kids at a dinner bell, drop that cage in the water and come back in a few hours......ummmmyummmm crabs for dinner...make sure you know how to cook em or you'll never eat another one, i can promise you that...smiles...good luck crabbin
