Is God "jealous" of Yoga? Would God mind if we opened our minds to new ideas and philosophies? We can still love God and learn. Can't we?

I refer you to the earlier question from Rogue about spiritual growth? He got several naswers saying Yoga is bad and God is jealous.

To Bran McMuffin: I sincerely hope you were being sarcastic. If you actually believe that then you are brainwashed beyond hope.

I've heard this too. I've also heard that Fundamentalist Christians are against meditation as well (unless of course, you are referring to "meditating" over the bible---which just means reading it).

I think Christians are afraid of that spark of divinity that is inherent within them. If it was acknowledged, then people would become empowered and have to start taking responsibility for their own actions.

I am a Christian and I love Yoga I find the two are very closely related as far as finding peace within yourself. My body has a problem with some of the positions

I am not frightened by any other beliefs.
That is one of the freedoms that our country offers, freedom of speech, religion, choice.
Man alone can have no "new" ideas since he did not create himself.
God states that He can be jealous of anything that causes you to devote your attentions to something other than Him.
Why should He not be, after giving so much to ones who have appreciated so little mostly.
Open Minds that cause you to devote time and attention to things that bring glory to something other than Him is indeed wrong.
Philosopihes are simply the thoughts of man - generally contrary to God.
Yes - you can love God and learn - just the things that help you truly grow on all levels.
If bending your body in unique positions is worthy of your time.....you find yourself concerned about your commitment to that.....simply ask Him - He is waiting to talk with you anyway.

Yoga doesn't frighten me. I took a yoga class at a Christian University, it was awsome, I still do the stretches years later.

Hi, I'm really sorry but the answer is no.

God does not want you to learn new philosophies and He is very leery about the whole Yoga thing. Stretching and feeling good about yourself and your body could lead to sex. And we know how He feels about sex. Especially if you actually enjoy it.

I am sure that hell is full of healthy, loving, open minded people that God (in His mercy), has cast down into the eternal flames.

Please turn away from that filthy Yoga and get into a strict religion. With time, you will learn shame and feel the stinging guilt that will set you apart from the sinners out there. Eventually, you'll be finding things wrong with all kinds of people who seemed perfectly kind and loving before.

Well, the choice is yours: Open minded, accepting, free thinking= sinner, go to hell

Or: Guilt-ridden, shame-laden, jugemental, exclusionary, closed minded=saved, go to heaven

I've made my choice "Yoga Girl". How about you??

Why does yoga work? Why does anything concerning mental focus work? Same principle.
The same people who love the book "The Power of Positive Thinking" scoff at things based on the same principle.

Hehe, this sounds so funny to me =)
It reminds me of the Friends episode when Chandler said the thing that scared him most was Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance. LOL

I'm a fan of yoga. I sure hope it isn't a "trick of satan"!!

I'm not afraid of yoga or anything else. The problems comes when we take our focus from God and put it in any other place. Meditation, if it's not on God, opens the mind to attack.
As for learning, I have the truth now.

We are worth a Son to God.

I believe so. You just have to know who you believe in . Just because the traditional way teaches otherwise, doesn't meen that we can not practice yoga. There is no where in the bible that says anything against.
