Sometimes. It always helps to have a few good connections when you relocate. They tend to know where to find things like, say the grocery, or the local hospital, important stuff like that. It also helps with the inevitable homesickness associated with moving.

Not particularly. There is a certain sense of adventure when relocating. Many of us on the left coast wouldn't be here if our family had waited to come from the right coast before they knew someone.

I guess it's helpful, but how would you really? The internet? That's alright, but once you get there everything will be different anyway.

I think what's more helpful is figuring out some stuff to do on your own. You will meet people really fast if you are OUT a lot, just hanging out outside.
