Why is it easier to see in bright light with one eye closed? Why doesn't the light seem just as bright to the one eye that remains open?

Your pupils react to light, that is they become smaller at the bright light, and widen in the dark. So my educated guess is if you close one eye, you eliminate the need of one eye (hehehe). And then, you have only one eye to worry about

Probably, and from my own experience, if you close one eye in bright light, that eye is more sensitive to light than the other. By closing that eye, you eliminate that brightness. Consult your eye professional for the best answer to that one.

As far as I remember. You always close the eye that is most exposed to the light and you keep the one that is not open this way protecting your eyes from the very powerful light that makes you cry.
