ever since the school semester started, i've had a hard time opening up to people, especially to god. i get embarrassed when i'm in a group of people and we're all taking turns praying out loud and when it comes to me i cant think of anything to say. i'm a christian and i really like my religion and have come to accept jesus as my savior, so please dont mention changing my religion. and then when i can think of things to pray about, it's usually something really short and just feels forced. it's like i dont know how to pray naturally from my heart anymore. what can i do?

Look, if you're gonna believe in Jesus, which is your right, then have more faith in him.

You're not praying to put on a show, you're praying because you love God and have entrusted yourself to him. If you feel a little forced, then simply pray whatever is on your mind, even if others don't understand. And if being in a group is making it hard to pray, then pray in private so that you don't feel forced.

You believe God knows your heart, so entrust it to him. Let nothing stop that.

This is a great question. When I first became a Christian, I had trouble praying out loud. Why I felt really didn't come out correctly and I thought that I sounded dumb.

What I did was pay attention to how other people prayed. It gives you a better "prayerful" vocabulary, if you know what I mean. Open your heart to God and eventually, the words will flow like the Holy Spirit flows through you.

There is not right or wrong way to pray. Eyes opened, eyes closed, looking up, bowing your head, folding your hands, making the sign of the cross, etc. It is irrelevant. What matters is what you have allowed to exist in your heart and God sees that and only that.

It never hurts to rehearse a prayer or write down what you want to say first. There is nothing that prohibits that. Even Pastors rehearse their sermons several times before they speak on Sunday morning.

:-)

God is smiling down on you right now..

When people pray out loud, it's nice, but not necessary. I think that in the Christian New Testament that it says something to the effect that "by your action's shall I know you" plus there are innumerable references to feeding the poor and comforting those who suffer. To put it another way, actions speak louder than words.

If you feel you must say something, give a general prayer of thanksgiving for whatever nice has happened if only you heard a bird sing. When alone, you might pray for the confidence to be yourself and not judge yourself by other people's standards.

Perhaps it's praying in a group that makes you feel that way. You should have the freedom not to have to pray out loud if you don't want to. At home, just be yourself and pray to God as if you were talking to your very closest friend. He knows all your thoughts anyway...so you can be perfectly frank with Him.

You don't have to pray out loud.
Your friends should understand if you don't want to.
