Shanghai to Tokyo on a Boeing 747-400 is 3 hours.

Usually it's Northwest Airlines that does the trip. When I flew from Narita in Tokyo to Pudong in Shanghai, it was a little more than 3 hours. Going to Narita, it was a little under 2.45 hours. It's relatively a short flight considering a flight to Tokyo from the States.

Depending on how fast the plane can go... it will take anywhere from 2-3 hours of actual flying time.

At 550 mph it will take approx 2 hrs.
