There are many:

The Kimball Art Museum and Amon Carter Museum in Ft. Worth are two national treasures....as is the Alamo in San Antonio and the LBJ Library in Austin. The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas is also an important museum.

Coming soon: The George H. W. Bush Presidential Library on the campus of Southern Methodist University should be opening is a few years.

Just to name a few.

PS: One cannot miss the Dr Pepper Museum in Waco either.

We have tons of them.

I live in Austin, so i can tell you about a few close to here:

The Bob Bullock Texas History Museum - This museum has some excellent permanent exhibits about the history of the state of Texas. It also has a "4-D" theater as well as an OMNI-MAX theater.

The Texas Memorial Museum - Located on the UT campus, it has one of the best paleontology exhibits in the state as well as several other preeminent exhibits that are worth a look. And best of all, it's free.

The Children's Museum - Sponsored by Dell and features excellent interactive exhibits designed to help kids learn about the topic at hand. The exhibits are frequently changed so each trip will be fun and different.

Austin also has a couple of fine arts museums that are worth seeing.

In Houston - The Natural History Museum. I saw "Body Worlds III" there. It was an excellent experience. They also have a nice paleontology exhibit, a fabulous gemology exhibit. Fork over the extra $8.00 to go into the butterfly pavilion!!! That in itself is worth the trip to Houston.

In Waco - The Texas Ranger Museum. Pretty interesting if you are interested in law enforcement or in Texas history in general.

Waco also has a Dr. Pepper museum. I have never been there, but its on the list of things to do...
