For He will command His angels
concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot
against a stone.
Psalms 91:11-12

Yes I do believe in guardian angels. Another pertinent verse:

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven. (Matt 18:10)

Depends on what you mean by "guardian angel."

The common conception of guardian angel is that there is a particular angel assigned to you (either when you are born, or when you are born again), and that particular angel watches out for you through your whole life until it's time for you to die. A sort of angelic bodyguard, you might say.

This is what I like to call 'theological science fiction.' It *might* be true; there's nothing in Scripture that says it couldn't be true. But there's nothing in Scripture that proves it, either.

What Scripture does support is that God sends angels to minister to His children in times of need. Psalm 91 discusses this, as you know; so does Heb. 1:14.

The "nuts and bolts" of how that happens aren't really discussed in Scripture. Does God assign you one angel? A team of seven angels? Three angels working eight-hour shifts? Do you have the same angel(s) all the time, or do they swap? Does God just send them out when you particularly need help, or are they there all the time? We don't know; God hasn't told us.

The conventional, one-angelic-bodyguard-for-life idea is a speculation that might help you imagine, in concrete terms, how God could use His angelic servants to care for you. There's no particular harm in this as long as you keep in mind that's *all* it is. The picture could also be very different; Scripture just doesn't tell us.

Scripture does tell us that God uses angels to watch over us and care for us; it just doesn't say much about exactly how it all works. Depend on what the Bible promises, but don't get too wrapped up in the details it doesn't describe.

It is interesting to note that the Devil himself quoted these very verses to Jesus while tempting him in the desert, and Jesus answered with another quote:

Matthew 4: 5-7

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

*laughing* I quoted this verse to myself when I hit my toe against the fireplace hearth so hard that it fractured it. I said, HEY, I thought I wasn't supposed to strike my foot against stone!

Yes I do believe that we have angels looking after us....do we each have a personally assigned angel? I don't know. I do know that I have felt the presence of angels once in awhile.

But HEY...what happened with the fireplace thing!!! :)

Absolutely believe, but don't believe they will not let you strike a stone. Just like when we're little you have to fall down to get back to reality. They have saved my life and limbs in the past, but sometimes I guess I need to take a belly flop.

Absolutely! I ask God to send His angels to watch over my family every morning and again every night before bed. I am specific...I ask Him to surround those that I love with His angels to keep them safe through the night or on a field trip, etc....
