If you are asking if this is a path for you....you and only you can decide this......The best way to really know is to try it.....and see how you feel after wards......
I myself went through a self-destructive bohemian phase where I practiced Yoga about 6X a week and got really into it......to the point where my ego was the thing pushing me........I missed the whole point of what it is trying to teach.....In reality I was just doing it to meet women and feel that I am good at something.
It took a few years to straighten myself out....now I do it by myself to understand that the discipline....emotional, physical is the path I need to be on......and besides I feel great physically and mentally after I do it.
The reason why many people associate yoga with meditation is because when you exude the excess pent up energy in our bodies....it actually quites our minds.....which is difficult to do when holding onto this energy....
Whatever your path to spiritual growth is best of Luck and Namaste

Yoga has two parts...one is Hathha yoga which is basically to keep body fit and healthy
The other one (Raja Yoga) deals with the mind and its mysteries. If this yoga is done it certainly helps in progress spiritually. If this is done continuously, one may even get enlightened.
Yoga is not for hindus... it is for humanity !!

Why not take up yoga as a form of stretching? Is exercise not a valuable goal in itself anymore?

You can find god in your daily life.
