Ignorance is lack of knowledge about a thing in a being capable of knowing. Fundamentally speaking and with regard to a given object ignorance is the outcome of the limitations of our intellect or of the obscurity of the matter itself. Since only voluntary and free acts are imputable, ignorance which either destroys or lessens the first-named characteristic is a factor to be reckoned with. It will, therefore, be taken to mean the absence of information which one is required to have. The mere want of knowledge without connoting any requirement on the part of a person to possess it may be called nescience (same meaning what ignorance).
Well shortly speaking you may not know if you ignorant but you should intelligently try not to be by learning pertinent facts and laws.

If indeed you do not know the answer to that question, you might be ignorant of what ever you were ignorant of. We tend to be ignorant of some things, that is, we just don't know about something or have not learned about something. Ignorant isn't "stupid" it's just having a lack of knowledge about one particular thing. However, I do believe you ARE NOT IGNORANT. Just questioning something. There is no judgement there on whatever it is! "Live long and prosper"

Perhaps you might be a little more specific. If you are talking about ignorance where it relates to a particular subject, then you can read as much as you can on the subject to gain a better grasp. Asking questions of experts can help to inform you as well. If you are speaking about ignorance where it involves relationships or interactions with others, then you have to rely on different kinds of feedback to guide you. There are always ways to become better educated and better informed and aware.

Ignorance is in the eye of the beholder. To a rocket scientist , you might be ignorant. To a person on a first grade reading level, you could be brilliant! Also , there is a difference between book sense and common sense. Some people are smart about reading and math, but they can't change their own oil in their car. Some people are smart at technical stuff like mechanics and electricity, but they can't read and understand the newspaper.

We are all Ignorant on some level until we attain complete unity with GOD. Ignorance is simply not knowing a particular thing. Some confuse ignorance with stupidity. Stupidity is and inability to learn.

because you would have a lot of questions to ask yourself and you wouldn't be able to answer them. I'm not talking about complicated questions such as "what's the meaning of life" or "what happens after you die", I'm talking about every day stuff, for example "Who is the president of the US?" "What are friends for?" "Why does my mom wear a skirt?"
If we want to go deeply on the subject, we can explore Socrates' theory about knowledge. Socrates said that his wisdom was limited to an awareness of his own ignorance. He never actually claimed to be wise, only to understand the path that a lover of wisdom must take in pursuing it. In his own words: "I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance.:

Well, since ignorant/ignorance is the most overused word on Yahoo! Answers, and in society today, you can rest assured there will be plenty of lemmings available to let you know whether or not you are, in fact, ignorant.

You wouldn't, and that's half the problem with people, there are far too many who consider themselves very wise but have no original thought or any understanding other than what they have read. It's a constant battle to be objective enough to look at yourself as an outsider, as someone else sees you, just another person in their eyes. It's a fault with entire religious structures in their quest for God that they can't even concieve of the notion that their entire unquestioning belief system may be bogus.

I like to think of myself as one with at least a bit of wisdom in some things, although it's probably not quite as great as I imagine, heads with nothing in them are very easily inflated with air and my disdain for organized religion has probably earned me the title of fool by some. There are many persons here on this site who are much wiser than I and many who are much greater fools. They're easy to spot, the wise are humble, the foolish are boastful and arrogant. If a person's words are worthwhile, they will be noticed and appreciated by people of like minds and scoffed at by those who feel challenged by them.

When my Best Answers percentage on this site not as high as I'd like to see it, shoud I tell myself that these people here are too stupid to recognize wisdom when they see it or should I wonder if my answers might not be as brilliant as I think?

A comment from my 360 pages:
The wise man is the one who knows the important questions.
The fool is the one with all the unimportant answers.
The fool proclaims "I know, I know."
The sage says "That's a good one. Beats the hell out of me!"
As ♫♪dreAMer♥ღ stated in Yahoo! Answers, the fool thinks he's wise...and the wise knows he's a fool!
Socrates said "One thing only I know, and that is that I know nothing."
Humility is the key to wisdom.
Hmm, That's why not, Don.

We all are to one degree or another.

Accept the fact that none of us have all the answers and be open to new ideas. Learn to tell the difference between fact and belief (opinion) so that you know when information being given is based in one or the other.

Ignorance is just a lack of knowledge. Stupidity is being exposed to the knowledge and refusing to accept it.
