no they do not. Each indivudual model has its own unique type certification. However since they are similar, becoming cross-trained would not be particularly difficult.

Grammar has it right. The reason is simple: Cost.
It is incredibly expensive to certify an airplane from scratch, so once done, any subsequent models of the plane are allowed to be certified by amendment to the original type certificate with almost no regard to how dissimilar they are to the original.
