Unless he is an infant and if he will be traveling with an adult he won't need an ID for domestic flights.

It is usually a state ID - very easy to get one from the DMV. I think they are usually like $12. Not sure if the airlines are accepting anything that isn't state issued, given new restrictions and what-not. Your best bet is to call the airline and ask them directly what forms of ID they are accepting.

Last year when I travelled with my son, they told me they would require his birth certificate, as he was a bit too young for a photo ID. Oddly, they never actually checked that - just my DL, which had to match the plane ticket exactly.

yes i think a school issue id is good enough provided it has his current picture on it but call the airline you are traveling on and ask and get the name of the person you talk to . Good Luck and I hope this helps.

The TSA is seriously considering the requirement of a microchip to be surgically implanted in travelers. This microchip would have all data pertaining to the identity of the person and will be the tracking device to constantly monitor movement of people.

If you can get a passport...that is the best by far. If not a picture ID and birth certificate with a raised seal on it.
