My face is mildly numb. Everything. Eyes, nose, forehead, lips, mouth, tongue. This started on Sunday evening and has been happening all week. I recently began taking Effexor XR 75mg but have been told by the doctor who precribed it that numbness is not one of the usual side effects. Has anyone ever heard of tingly numbness happening out of nowhere? And is there anyone who knows if Effexor could be the culprit here? I am TERRIFIED about this. Thank you for any information you can offer.

This could be Bell's Palsy, a small stroke, or an allergic reaction. You need a neurologist fast. Go to the emergency room, clinic, or an M.D. as soon as you can get there.

I kind of think that your doctor is a quack. I have bells palsy. Bells palsy is a neurological condition often cause by sinus infections. These infections usually make the facial area and the nerves inflamed. The treatment is ultra sound and meds, such as biaxin xl and even steroids. Not the illegal kind but the legal kind your doctor can give to you in pill form that is for treatment of bells palsy. The ultra sound is usually for inflamation of the facial and nerve areas of the face. The best doctor to see if you want to see one would be a neurologist for this kind of treatment but on occassions some md's can do this for you as well.

Definitely to to the Doctor right away. A husband of a lady I used to work with had a cold/virus that wouldn't go away and it developed into a condition that caused permanent facial paralysis. Not the whole face, but parts of it. I don't recall what this was called, but if you are experiencing numbness, that means nerve problems, so you'll want to get checked out right away.

Just read the person's response right before mine, and that was the name of the condition, Bell's Palsy.
