See if you can borrow or rent a karaoke machine to have a good singsong and get some cds that feature songs both from your Mom's era and your sister's. That would be great fun for all of the guests. You can keep the food simple...maybe a "pot-luck" where the guests can help and each bring an appetizer or a main dish. You can provide a cake. Hope your party goes well!

Take them out for a joint birthday meal. Book a table and before the big night, take a birthday cake there and ask if someone could bring the cake out to them after the meal and sing happy birthday. That would be a lovely suprise because it shows that a lot thought has gone into it

hey amy,
the best thing for your mom you can do is give her any pict frame in which the pict contain very beautiful memory between you and her. it might be between 5 to 10 pound. and u can give a card with that which contain your feelings towards your mom. trust me for parents money never relavent. so other 40 pound u can spend after your sister and as this is her 18th birthday it has to be something special.Again dont give money much importance, so you can call her all best friends for party a night ahead at 12 o clock, when she is sleepin you can arrange a big cake and good bottle of champaign. trust me these kind of things will make you more closer to them.. all d best

a PICNIC.... it wins every time. buy some nice food, make some interesting things (handmade anythnig will do). take a big blanket, some cushions and a radio or small stereo.

it can cost less than £20 and they will never have anything so thoughtful.

best idea though is to have fun together. my most expensive birthday was rubbish because it wasn't fun but a impromtu picnic was the best birthday i ever had.

Buy two silver photograph frames and take some photographs on the day that they would like to keep to remember the day.

or if you can take the photographs before or use old ones but something that will be special.
