And how to stop them!

Probably every one. Go to Start> Run> type in msconfig and press ENTER, then go to the start up tab and see what all is running on the start up process. You can uncheck every item, but keep in mind that this is where your anti-virus software starts from. If you uncheck something and decide you need it running, just repeat the process mentioned. When you reboot you will get a screen telling you that the computer was started with selective start up, check the box and click okay to keep it from showing that box on start up. Hope this helps.

You must be talking about *Startup* Few program which starts wid your operating system has to do something with startup!

here you can find them ....

1. go to ---------->>drive C: or where your windows is being installed

2. Document settings

3.User ( on wht name you have loged on)

4. start menu

5. programs

6. startup

7. select or get rid of them(but yes beware dont tamper with Antivirus and other very imp. softwares tht you want to keep)
in my opinion keep it as empty as possible(not whn you have antivirus or antispyware) bcoz this helps computer to boot fast and act nice!.

yes this i said for just for User on which you have logged on but if you want tht to be common to every user then

look on step 3

3>> change it to *All user*

and rest is the same you would again reach a new start up! modify it as you wish.

OR

you can use utility software such as SytemMechanic or PCtuneup!

and tht Dos console method could work too..

hope this would help!!

CrownPC has it. You really should not stop your anti-virus program from starting on startup, though.

There are other things that might start up that are not in msconfig, and are found in services.msc. There are websites that let you know what services are safe to disable - you'd be surprised at how many there are that you really don't need - but don't be too quick to mess with that...

the ones you do need are systray and iexplorer for sure, and other important system ones, the rest are junk. you can ctrl alt delete and kill each one and see if your computer runs fine. or eliminate them from start up.

Crownpc beat me to it, also using msconfig, you can allways go back and check and restart with no harm, no foul
