Better boxer? Muhammad Ali. Better fighter? Mike Tyson. Tyson never was a "boxer" he didn't have to be because all of his early fights lasted about 60 seconds. In his prime he was an animal. However Ali had the toughest jaw in boxing and would have survived that first 60 seconds and would have pummeled Tyson for 15 rounds and sent him off to retirement.

Well, I dont like iron mike, but in his prime, at his peak theres only one, Mike Tyson was closer to a boxer than Ali. Ali was just a defender, dancer with a hard punch. Mike trained by Cuz, he was to be and to become a great boxers. Unfortunatly, with Cuz dying the Don got involved with Tyson and so started his demise.

Ali was a better boxer. I think a few of Tyson's opponents took a dive.
I would also like to clear the air that Ali wasn't universally loved by all. He had a huge following but there were just as many that wanted to see him get his bell rung. He was quite a loudmouth and a braggart back in the day. There were quite a few rooting for Frasier, Norton, Foreman, and Spinks. With the exception of Foreman, he took a lot of punishment from the others and that's why he can't talk today.

I believe that Ali was a better boxer in his Prime. He had the ability to stick and move, Slip Punches, had an ansenal of punches.. KO power included.
Mike Tyson was a puncher who just went straight ahead and over powered his opponent he didnt slip punches or dance and get out of the way just had raw power.
Therefore Better Boxer in his prime goes to Ali

have to agree with NLS on this one. the replays of tyson fights in the late 80s that are showing on espn were when tyson was in his prime. he barely got hit, was fast, smart and had the best coaching available. Ali just wasnt fast enough, powerful enough, or tough enough to compete with mike tyson. mike was a much better boxer than most people give him credit for. a physical freak of a man that trained for a long time under great trainers gave him no real weaknesses.

Ali would dance circles around Tyson, although if Mike could connect with a hook, I think Ali would go down. Speed wins with me, so I gotta go with Ali!

Better boxer or who would win? Those are completely different questions.

Ali is clearly the better boxer. His skill and natural talent supercedes all.

I might toss up a match though (though I'd lean towards Ali). Guys are bigger than they were then, Mikes a big boy (though Ali fought guys like George Foreman, so it's not like he hasn't faced someone with the size advantage----which is why I lean towards him).

Ali hands down. Better character, better heart, better chin, faster feet, faster hands, a supreme ring general, better at the psychological aspects of the fight game. An underrated fighter in the sense of power. Also fought in the " Golden Era " of Heavyweights. Tyson didn't fight the likes of Liston, Frazier, Norton, Patterson, Williams, Terrell, Quarry, Bonavena, Lyle, Shavers. Fought much better competition and came out on top. Dominated boxing for 20 years.

I am going to go against the current it goes for Mike Tyson but that is of Cus D'amato is at his corner. Ali never had the power that Tyson had he is flamboyance and charm which Tyson has none of.
