First, read the Bible again. Next, find the verse where Jesus says "Today you will be with me in Paradise." tell me, would He call hell paradise? The going to hell and getting the keys story is part of a roman catholic story that got twisted along the way and now many people believe it. Find out what hades is. Hades and hell are two DIFFERENT things. Then re-read the bible. Everything that needed to be done was done ON THE CROSS. There is nothing else nedded other than the blood Jesus shed. And if you want to know why the Catholic bible and the true christian bible are different, look at the article at the top of this page.

Most Protestant churches use the Apostle's Creed, rather than the more commonly used by Catholics Nicean Creed. The Apostle's Creed doesn't mention the hell bits, I don't think...
I always liked the idea of Jesus heading down to Hell to get the keys of death. Somehow when I was little this became tied in my mind with Mortal Kombat and I always pictured Jesus ripping Satan's spine out.

Probably because their preacher explains the passage in the bible that says he descended into hell as not going to hell but going to the grave and in some denominations they believe in purgatory which is a holding place for the dead until the judgment. this, they claim is the place Jesus went, but purgatory has a chasim seperating the good from evil, so even then they say Jesus went to minister to the already chosen good.

'Cause they don't know their own religion.
Apostle's Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From whence he shall come again with glory to judge both the
quick and the dead, whose Kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Scary stuff, man. That's from memory - I've never been able to scrub it from my mind, and I haven't set foot in a Christian church for 30 years. I might try hypnotherapy sometime. ;-)

You are correct, Jesus DID descend to Hades after His physical death. But what many don't understand is that there are three parts of Hades (Hell). Jesus did not go to the area where the unrighteous are; He went to the area where the righteous went after death.
For those Christians who disbelieve, here's the proof:
According to Luke 16:22, the righteous went to "Abraham's Bosom" after death; this is a separate place from "torments" (verse 23, where the unrighteous go) and "the great gulf" (verse 26, where Satan will eventually go for 1,000 years, per Rev. 20:3). Since the righteous dead hadn't had their sins forgiven, they couldn't enter Heaven ... yet.
Jesus tells us at John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, AND NOW IS, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live." (emphasis added) Notice Jesus tells us the dead were CURRENTLY hearing His voice, while He was still on Earth, preaching the Gospel to the living.
At Luke 4:18-19, Jesus publicly quoted Isaiah 61:1-2:
18 “ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
(emphasis added)
Once Jesus died, He descended to Hades, within which "Abraham's Bosom" was, and proclaimed to the righteous dead that "it is finished." In other words, His life had been sacrificially given, and His blood spilled. Therefore, their sins finally were forgiven:
1 Peter 3:18 "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, THAT HE MIGHT BRING US TO GOD, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached TO THE SPIRITS in prison ... " (emphasis added)
1 Peter 4 further emphasizes the reason Jesus preached the Gospel to the righteous dead was so that they could be brought to God:
"6 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit."
So, yes, Jibba Jabba, your understanding of this issue is correct.
Peace.

The entire work of redemption was fulfilled by Jesus on the cross.
John 19:30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said "It is finished!"
"It is finished" meaning "Paid in full".
Listen to what Jesus tells the repentent thief on the cross-
Luke 23:43
"Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise".
Between Christ's death and resurrection, His living spirit went to the demon spirits bound in the abyss and proclaimed that, in spite of His death, He had triumphed over them. (1 Peter 3:19)

As it says in the creed, "He descended into hell, on the third day He rose again from the dead and ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of the Father".

If I recall, the only reference to Jesus going to Hell was in a Jewish book I skimmed through. Jesus went there during his three days of being dead to free Moses and the others. I've never seen reference to this in the bible, which is why no Christian believes it.
