I have been doing this 4 a long time and he just won't stick to it. He's very smart and knows what 2 do and when to go. I think he would rather use tha bathroom on his self than get up and go use tha potty. What can I do??????

Darling, there are grown men that can't stay focus or aim right when they go. So it will take time and practice. Be patient he will get it the hang of it. If not, then it will be his wife's problem. Good luck.

Just keep making him sit on the potty everyday and monitor when and what time he has to make 1 & 2 that way you can make him sit down on the potty and do it. After a while he'll get the hang of things and it will be fun to him. Also get some DVD's that teach them about the potty like Once Upon A Potty or Elmo Goes Potty. You should also reward him everytime he uses the potty that will encourage him. It's harder for boys then girls to get the hang of using the potty it takes time and patience. So just bare with him cause I'm going through almost the same thing with my 3yr. old son who will be 4 in March.

ok I know this will sound strange but these are things I tried and my son was completely using the potty by 2.
A)Try making it a game.. buy some cheerios.. put them a few in the potty and tell him they are targets.. then when he hits them (and you know he will) give him a prize.
B) if you have a decent sized yard (preferably fenced in) with some trees try having him go on the tree.. going potty becomes a exercise in manliness lol and he'll eventually go to the bathroom when he figures out that not everyone wants to see him go outside.
C) throw a potty party when he goes.. just you and him and whoever is close to you guys.. cupcakes and ice cream or just some fruit snacks and his favorite movie. It's incentive and he'll love it.
The second one can backfire on you so be prepared lol but they all work.

Sometimes young children would rather play than use the bathroom. Or, sometimes they wait so long to leave what they were doing to go to the bathroom that they don't make it in time. This is all normal. Try setting up a chart with stickers. Give him a sticker on his chart for every time he goes in the bathroom instead of his pants. Then set up a reward system for the stickers. For example, if he gets 5 stickers he gets candy , 10 stickers he gets something else. Soon it will be to his advantage to leave his play and use the bathroom. Hope this helps.

Have you bribed him? They usually want something. Does he want to go to preschool? That was my bribe for my 3 1/2 year old son. He wanted to go to preschool so bad. Boys just tend to be a bit slow my then 1 1/2 year old daughter potty trained at the same time.

My son will be 4 in Nov. He gets into doing something then he forgets sometimes. Get something to make him want to go into the bathroom. Maybe a kid toilet seat or something. If all else fails...bribe him. Make a chart...give him a star when he makes it to the potty. Maybe it's something medical? If it doesn't get any better I would look into that...Good Luck!

2 things: give it a little bit more time OR if it really bothers you, take him to the pediatrician, but really, he's competely normal to not want to go ALL the time. It'll click one day and he'll just start going when he's gotta go! Promise. DON"T pressure him, though. Just encourage him. You could maybe ask him if he has to go once an hour or right after he drinks something and if he says no, take him to the bathroom to try. But if he fights you, just let him be.

Praise him when he does go and make sure to praise him every time. Tell him what good job he has done and remind him that when he goes to the bathroom in the potty he is a big boy.

there are little paper like things out there that you can put into the potty and he "tinkles" on it and it makes noise. you might want to try that. i am not sure how they work cause they weren't out when my kids were learning but i have heard others talk about them.

Put underwaer on him and keep letting him pee on him self until he gets sick of it. Also don't change him right away.
