Yes, the hard truth is that if you are teaching your kids that the Easter bunny and Santa Claus exist, you are not only lying, you are harming your children. They will find out the truth and be crushed. They will also always know that you didn't mind lying to them and creating a fantasy world that would eventually hurt them.
However, it is not always a sin to lie. The principle of double effect makes lying acceptable in situations where a greater sin would be produced if you didn't lie. In fact there is one situation in the Bible where a woman is rewarded and praised for lying in the right situation.
I've used this illustration before. If you were hiding a family of Jews during the Nazi occupation, would you hand them over if the Nazis asked you directly if any Jews were in the building? Which would be the greater of the two sins and which would God want?
1. You smile peacefully and say "Yes. They are in the basement." Then you watch them get drug out and later find out they were taken to a concentration camp and cremated alive. You are smiling inside, knowing that you are ok with God because you didn't tell a lie. You're a great Christian!
2. You lie LIKE A RUG! "No sir, haven't seen any Jews. No Jews here." A whole family lives to old age because of your help and because you told a lie under these circumstances?
I think God would be happier and more at peace with a person who chose the second route.

To answer your question, I will use myself, When my kids was born I was not a Christain then, Actually I was a Christain before the 2nd child was born, but not my 1st child. In May 1970, I became a Christain, I was young in the Lord, so for many yrs. I did let my kids think there was a santa, & easter bunny, But as I grew in the Lord, I knew it was wrong, My first wife, She is Deceased now, kept up this ideal, I just step aside, & I knew one day God will let circumstances develope to cause my kids to realize the truth, When my oldest child was about 9 yrs. Old she said daddy there is no santa claus, & she knew that I also knew that. I know there are many young Christins that is over zealous, But as you grow in the Lord, If you don't know what to do or say, Let God put it in that childs mind the truth. To this day both of my kids, even though thy are not Christains, They have their own family now. They still know that Daddy was right in the way I handled it. They don't believe in santa or easter bunny, but they do believe there is a God. Good question here, I just gave you my experince, everybody situation is different, But Yes, I agreed with you, we shouldn't be telling our children that there is a santa & easter bunny, because in some cases, but not all cases, they will think if Daddy or Mommy told me a lie then Then how do I know if they are not lying now about Jesus Christ & God. I think the first thing a Parent should do is live that life of a Christain so your kids can see there is something different about you & they want to know what it is.

True Christians will tell their children the truth about the Holidays and explain that St. Christopher (Santa) is also remembered on the day that we celebrate Jesus’ birthday because of what St. Christopher did in his life. We explain that it is just a fun game and Santa does not really come nor does the Easter bunny. The true gift of Christmas is Jesus. Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ after his crucifixion for the pardon of our sins and the Easter bunny is just a fun way to illustrate to children of the new life we have received from Jesus in the forgiveness of our sins through Jesus’ crucifixion and His resurrection means He is alive and will always be alive. New birth is also prominent in the spring and restoration of many plants and flowers show new life during this time as well. So no, Christians do not lie but we all make mistakes and on occasion have to ask forgiveness. Christian are human beings and will always make mistakes. Being a Christian means you ask Jesus for forgiveness and continually work on a relationship with Him through studying the Bible and in prayer. Going to church with other Christians also is helpful because as we all grow in our relationship with Christ we can share the joys we experience and the things we learn from Him in the Bible. It is a big book and just reading it once will not give you all the information on the first read. You must continue to read and study it to pull out all of the information accurately.

It is okay to lie to your children until they are old enough to think for themselves. Santa and the Easter bunny are childhood things that make our children in to adults.
It is not telling a lie as much as it is tell a tale. The moment it is found out that it is not true then all is forgotten.
That is what a christian would say. Thank God i am not one of those people.

Christians should not tell their children that Santa and the Easter bunny are real, it is a lie, and will cause the child to question whether Jesus and the Bible are lies also.

Anything that a Christian says that is untrue is considered to be a lie. There is no such thing as a "little white lie" for lying of any kind is unacceptable to God. Satan is called "the father of the lie" and we do not want to imitate anything that the devil would do. James 1:13 tells us: "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
Parents should be honest not only with their children, but with all people. Parents are to set a good example.
Here are more Scriptures to consider before saying anything untrue:
Proverbs 12:19--"The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment."
3 John 1:4--"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."
Revelation 21:8--" But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
As you can see, God puts someone who lies in the same category as murderers, unbelievers and idolators.

No Christian can be honest all the time. It is impossible. You still need to get a job and in order to do that you have to make statements that you may not believe (such as, "I want this job because i know i could be an asset to the team." Come on! Everyone, even the employer, knows that you want this job because you need a job and for no other reason). People that never ever ever lie (and there aren't that many) tend to have no friends, no romantic involvement, and no job. How many Christians do you know that are like that?
