why are people so uptight about underage drinking? honestly we are just have fun. is it really hutinign anyone? no..so wtf is the big deal? & parnets do you allow your kids to drink underage? if not why?

Because most younger people don't comprehend the concept of drinking Responsibly, they drink to get wasted. This leads to all sorts of things that can get a kid you love hurt. Every year, hundreds of kids drink themselves TO DEATH at college campuses. If your blood alcohol gets too high, you will die...or you can vomit and drown in your fluids because you are so out of it.
And, the other kids they drink with are not old enough to necessarily understand the consequences of doing bad things when you or they are wasted so it increases the chances of someone getting hurt. As a girl, you can be raped or allow yourself to do things using the excuse 'well I was drunk' and end up seriously damaging your self esteem. If you have sex when you are drunk, what is the likelihood you think to ask for a condom...heard of HIV & STD?
If you are in public drunk (even over 21), it is still illegal even if you are not driving. You can be arrested for Public Intoxication. I had a friend recently who almost lost her son because who was so drunk he stumbled off the sidewalk right in front of an oncoming car...he was in a coma for 3-months and will never get full brain cognition & motor skills back. When you get wasted, you basically willing give up the right to control your own life. Others can do whatever they want to you and change your life forever. That is the big deal!
But, it is the fault of Parents that this occurs. Other countries start teaching their kids to drink responsibility from age 5 and up. If the US did not demonize alcohol so much and make it so cool to teenagers, these things would be a lot less likely to happen. I will allow my daughter to drink the occassional glass of wine, usually at holiday dinners and special occassions. But, we have talked about what alcohol is and what can happen when you get out of control.

I agree that underage drinking is a taboo in this country that doesn't exist elsewhere (in Europe, for example). Also, the age of 21 seems pretty arbitrary to me.
I do not think that you should be able to buy alcohol when you're under 18, but if you're parents want to buy you a drink with dinner, it shouldn't be illegal.
As far as teens buying beer and getting drunk at parties - that's bad. Teens just aren't mature enough to handle this. Heck - I agree with the posters who say most adults can't handle booze either!

Why are people so uptight about underage drinking? Because they don't want their child wrapped around a tree in the family car, nor do they want some drunk teen driving their children around. Is it really hurting anyone? Unfortunately, Yes.

i drank when underage, along with a lot of other things and am amazed that i didn't become one of those pathetic staticstics of tragic teenage car accidents...maybe it's because your parents care about you enough that they don't want to see YOU become a pathetic teenage statistic.

people who are adults drink irresponsibly,they have wrecks and kill people everyday,alcoholism killed my mother,she drank for years and was a total freak when she was drinking,she couldn't control herself and she was 47 so how can kids under the drinking age think they can handle it!what if you drove and killed someone?

most adults can't handle drinking alcohol properly what makes you think a kid can!! you can't spell very good,are you boozed up now too?? It is illegal ,too.
