It depends on how underage the actual drinking is. Here in the UK the legal age is 18 so everyone 15+ drinks: bad news. Over there in the states it's 21, right? So I assume most people start drinking age 18+: at least by that age they can handle it. Makes more sense to me over in America.

Drinking for pleasure is a time honored tradition among humans. However, with it come many other personal responsibilities.

In times past, alcohol in a beverage helped to make it safe to drink, since many water supplies have pathogens and parasites. There is no doubt that the body can deal very well with minor amounts of alcohol at any age. That's what some basic medications have, and their benefits are clear.

I'm not going to preach, but we are no longer in a world where we can't drink the water, or have other beverages to rehydrate ourselves. So, we don't see drinking alcohol as a necessary and all day need in order to survive.

The brain matures over time. It may seem that you have all of the same capacities of an adult, or fully mature body/brain, but even the most recent studies have shown that the brain doesn't 'fully mature' until around 20 (sciences' definition, not mine). With that youth comes a lot of energy, passion and inexperience in dealing with 'adult' stresses. Among these is the passion and pressure of relationships, work and education.

Since we now drink for pleasure, these difficult situations can quickly get out of hand for anyone. It is a societal wisdom to simply make a choice for youth, in general, which benefits the long term needs of a society. It takes a village, and all that....

Dissapointment is easier to deal with, and more understanding gained from dealing with it straight, rather than through an alcohol haze. This is a truth for ANY age and time.

The underage body would puke 50% more compared to an adult body due to capacity of consuption. Amen to that.
