Without us you boys are nothing. Every man should be bloody good and grateful he has at least one daughter.

I'm going to take a stark contrast to Shiny above me. First of all, she misquoted Ecclesiasticus. 22:3 reads in full: "A son ill taught is the confusion of the father: and a foolish daughter shall be to his loss." Then, 22:4 starts out with "A wise daughter shall bring an inheritance to her husband," which would be strong praise for a woman.

It is true that the birth of a baby girl brough about a longer period of purification, but the birth of a son also required more ritual. Think of the time of purification as maternal leave: the mother's normal job was housework, but now she wasn't allowed to touch anything in the house. In the case of a daughter she gets a longer vacation, but in the case of a son, she gets a shorter vacation and a party as they circumsize the kid on the eighth day. Also, notice that, in contrast to some cultures of the time, Numbers 27:8&9 put daughters above brothers in inheritance.

Also, sons and daughters are mentioned side by side in the commandments of the Torah.

Also, Miriam, Moses's older sister, was a prophetess, and Deborah was a Judge in Israel. Daughters may not have been as likely to raise to leadership, but it was not forbidden in any sense of the word.

I don't know what exactly you're asking, but... I'll play along.

Giving birth is a dreadful, painful experience, but is soon forgotten by the body for the joy that is made possible in Motherhood.

If girls are awful, I wish your Mother had decided against birthing you.

The birth of my first child, a daughter was traumatic.
The birth of my second child, a second daughter was easy peasy.
The birth of my third child, my only begotten son was difficult as his head emerged in three sections and I tore.

On balance I would take the girl's births over the boys.

Eh?

What are you trying to say, that having daughters is bad?

Why? Daughters are cool, you know... barbie and my little pony and bratz toys lying round the house.

If we all had sons the human race would die out pretty quickly....

or were you saying that giving birth is awful for the girl - to which I can only answer yeah, I guess so, giving birth sucks, be thankful you are a bloke...

Of course it's not awful. Anyone who believes that is stupid. What would men do without us, where would the world be without us;it would not exsist. We are all equal, we are all given life by a force greater than us!

many ppl past and present seem to think in this way.
its sad when a girl is born though because they dont have such a good life, boys have a better life.

i was born a girl i had an older sister and i always knew my dad wanted a boy, it made me a tom boy.

No, I firmly oppose that view. When a girl is born, you should wait until she's three years old or so, when you can know if she's worth the life or not. Same goes for boys by the way. If they turn out to be unworthy, just toss them in the oven. It's what parenting is all about.

Only in some cultures, when the wealth can only be passed to boys, where only boys are allowed certain jobs. If no girls were born we'd all die out.
