I work for a background screening company

Yes you have a RIGHT to see the report. Either contact the manager again, or contact the HR department of the company...... By law under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) they have to either give it to you, or give you the contact information of the company who ran the background check. If they use an outside vendor, contact the vendor and tell them you would like a copy. The vendor might ask you to write them a letter requesting a copy within 60 days. Under the law you have a right to receive a copy and to dispute any of the information in the report.

Basically a background check is considered a credit report, and is governed by the same laws.

If the HR person or manager gives you the runaround just tell him you know your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and you know you have a right to see the reports and you want to see it.

If you need any other help, let me know!

By law information concerning an individual by law is deemed as "confidential" and cannot be given to anyone without that individuals consent. If that manager gave out that information he could have a serious lawsuit on his hands. Really he is just going by the law. There are legal ways to find out things like this, but I would suggest talking to an attorney and the attorney can advise you. Then it may not be worth it because the attorney is going to have a consultation fee, so really think about all the costs involved with this. If it is extremely important then contact an attorney and he will tell you your options.
