I have never taken an alcoholic drink (for health reasons) so
it makes me somewhat of an observer since I lead a normal
social life, go out to pubs, parties and ask for a coke! Drinking
alcoholic beverages of any kind will quickly make you addicted.
I notice that most drinkers are not aware of which stage they
have reached, they talk more and often enter into subjects they
know nothing about. First time drinkers can become aggressive
debaters and sound foolish. The addiction quickly builds up
and consumers show excitement when it is nearing "beer time"
or any other preference. Some drink on their own which is bad
as they will never know when it is time to stop. If taken with a
meal there will little change unless too many appetisers were
thrown down the hatch. It is best when taken during a meal
and if you insist, I suggest sticking to beer or wine. Distilled
or mixed drinks are the worst so stay away, at least for a
starting experience, then you will be able to judge for yourself
if it is worthwhile. One last advice which you have heard so often,
never drink and drive. Some drivers can drink quite heavily and
drive well, whilst others can loose their timing and reflections
after their first swig. Now, if you can stay away from temptation
all to the better. I have never lost a friend for not joining in for
harmless quickie.

if you dont go overboard, nothing will happen to you.
You should definately not do it on an empty stomach.

Start off with something that doesnt contain a high amount of alcohol like a Baileys ( if you like sweet).
Dont drink more than 2 drinks because you are not used to it.
If your body is going to react it will either react badly, like youll get really dizzy, talk loud, not really know what your saying, probably throw up and have a big headache the next day. OR, nothing will happen.

Dont mix alot of different drinks.

I personally hate the taste of any alchoholic drink even beer so when I go places where alchohol is served I have something else that looks like a drink but is ''virgin''.

Have fun :)

First, if you can do not be pressurised into drinking.
If you must start with an "Easy" wine. German whites are in that category as the alcohol content is around 10%.
Never have more than 3 glasses and drink water either along side the wine or between glasses. This way you will never get a headache. French, South African,Australian and US wines are very nice with loads of flavour but contain more alcohol, around 13%. If you try these still drink the water. Watch any Frenchman drinking wine at dinner and he will have a bottle of water with him at all times.
Beer is really an acquired taste as the first drink can be be a real taste shock. Bitter beer is the best for flavour. Lager is a boys drink and is often taken with a small amount of lime to take the sharp edge off it. Alcohol levels for beer are around 3.5 to 5.0%. You cannot really drink water with beer as the beer has a lot of liquid to deal with.
Before going to bed after drinking beer drink water, at least a pint.
Drink in moderation and you will really enjoy it. Over indulge and the enjoyment though there, is short lived and you can be very ill.
To much alcohol will also make you fat.
Best of luck and enjoy your life and drink with care.

Aloha from Down Unda!
I recommend that you stick to beer for 75 % of the trial. Then, the last 25%, try each and every drink you can get them to bring to you. Each different. As many as 10 if you can! By the time you're carried home & put on bedrest for about 3 days with the jitters & shakes, you'll begin to understand the issues. The 1st day will be miserable but you should try at least 1-2 more beers. That will allow you to go back to sleep off the next day or two and of course, it should always serve as an experience to value for the remainder of your entire life to respect alcohol & yourself to keep a limit of consumption to a reasonable level of enjoyment without over induldging & to remain responsible. Cheers!

Make sure you eat a full meal right before and before you go to bed drink at least one big glass of water for each drink you've had. If it is your first time and you don't want to get rip roaring drunk, I would suggest sipping on one to three drinks all night rather than chugging them down. If you aren't sure you are going to like the taste of alcohol, start off with a mixed drink where the flavor isn't as strong. Try an amaretto sour, very yummy and hardly tastes like alcohol at all!

the biggest mistake for first time drinkers (myself included) is they drink purely to get drunk. this is stupid when you don't know your limitations or how to handle it. first time i did it i had my head down the toilet bowl praying to the porcelain god for the latter half of the night, and the next morning feeling like my head had been run over by a freight train. my advice - don't mix drinks (ie stick to a type, dont take beer AND wine AND vodka etc). eat before you start to line the stomach (and NO, milk is so not a good idea!) and start slow. don't shot your hard spirits. = trouble. i'd suggest going with beer (approx. 4.5% per bottle), cos you can feel it as it starts to affect you. hard spirits, due to the high alcoholic content (usually 30-45%) tend to leave you feeling fine one minute and leave you on your *** the next. and by that stage, it's too late.

Drink plenty of water and have something stodgy to eat - remember that alcohol takes twenty minutes to take effect so drink slowly if you want to remain in control. try not to have more than 2 or 3 units at a time and never never drive under the influence. Have more water when you get home if you want to avoid a hangover.

Firstly drink lots of milk before you go out to line your stomach, only drink the drinks you like the flavour of, have a soft drink between each drink and when you get home drink a pint of water before bed.

If you dont like it, then do not be pushed into having it. Its okay not to drink alcohol, it shows amazing self respect and confidence and tells everyone that you are not bothered what they think as you are so confortable with who you are.

It can be enjoyed in moderation. But do find something you like the flavour of, there are a lot of morons out there who drink it to get drunk regardless of the flavour!
