How much did you spend or do you plan to spend on decorating the ceremony site? And, give details of how you decorated, if you can. Also, what kind of venue and how much did it cost to rent?

Here's my suggestion.

You can make the most difference with fabric.
The main thing in the ceremony - that makes a church look like a wedding - is bows on the pews and swags doen the aisle. You can buy material to drape and make bows.
or you can rent them really cheap - for great sewing and color selection. Use dressmychair.com
You can rent swags in any color organza, satin, chiffon for only $25 They ship worldwide. And they have bows and sashes for down the aisle in satin and organza .50-.75 each.
Your bridesmaids will be a the front of the church and the groomsmen - so flowers aren't always necessary if the budget is so tight. Maybe a nice floral adornment on the unity candle or candelabras - or a nice satin tie or bow.
Good luck!!!

Married in a field. I let mother nature take care of the decor.

As far as decorating the sight I've had family spend thousands decorating the church and seen it done for hundreds. The big part is what's within your budget and style.

Some florist will let you rent silk flowers and arches and all. The florist I worked at had different prices for different size rentals running $100 up. Your best bet on rentals is to get to the florist early to be able to reserve what you want.

You'll also have to take into consideration the ceremony site you'll be using. Another idea is making your own. You'd be amazed what the major craft stores carry just for this.

Enjoy your wedding and a lifetime of happiness to you and your groom.

I am getting married in 4 weeks at a hotel in their ballroom. The ceremony and reception will be in the same room. For the room and food for 60-80 people it was about 1500-2000. Alcohol is extra. Because we are at a hotel we are required to clean up after the party so we arent doing a lot of decorations. We have flowers everywhere, and center pieces. The tables will be clothed and stuff by the hotel so we dont have to worry about that. i dont think people will really notice if you do nothing.

We went to a wedding reception that was just in this room, with no decorations what so ever, and no one cared, we had way too much fun. ONly do as much as you want and remember clean up, by either you or your family and friends.

Good Luck

Rentals is the key to doing this cheaply!

In a church, pew bows are traditional and cheap, you can even make these yourself. I would only then add two big flower displays at the front, either side of the alter for pictures.

Let's face it, no one remembers if the ceremony was decorated because they are looking at the CEREMONY, the bride is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, their bouquets are beautiful, the men look stunning, the ceremony is heartwarming and then everyone leaves.

(any decorations at the ceremony site can be transported to the reception site by a family friend for free!)

Don't bother! Really!

I've had friends who spent hundreds of dollars to decorate the church, and NO ONE NOTICED. Really, everyone is watching the ceremony and not paying attention to the flower arrangement on the pedastal by the door or the ferns in front of the altar.

Just throw up some pew bows, and you'll be fine.

I spent $500 on decorating the reception site, the hall decorated it for me, there was tulle and lights on the ceiling, pillars behind the head table, and LOTS of wine (that was the colour that I chose for the bridemaids), it was geogreous. My church supplies all the decorations for the ceremony site, and I didn't pay a dime for the church

I got married in a very ornate Greek Orthodox church and we decided not to decorate it, as it looks amazing as is. This was wonderful because it saved us a lot of money.

If you simply must decorate your ceremony site, keep it simple, elegant, classic. Remember the reason your there is for a very sacred ceremony.
