With most people in Bulgaria earning less than £1.50 a day, there will be a stampede to the UK on January 1st. They will be happy to work for a fraction of the minimum wage so the black market in the UK will spiral. It depresses me to think that Yo Blair still has no policy around immigration.

I am form Bulgaria and don't understand why people from the UK are so worried about immigrants from Bulgaria and Romania. That is after "opening the doors" for the population of 10 countries, of which only Poland has a population of 50 mln. Bulgaria's population is presently 7.5 mln., Romania's population is appr. 21 mln.
When I visited the UK (legally and with a visa!) I noticed many people who obviously are of different origin and religion than that of the native Brits - the most amazing fact was that many of them obviously did not even speak English, yet they were working and living in the UK. If this is OK with you, why on earth, is the present situation so worrying? Plus, this all comes from a nation, which is historically "immigrant", having settled the USA, Australia, etc. There are already Brits settling in Bulgaria. They seem to be nice people and are well accepted. But should we be afraid of you :)....

Anyone who has obtained a British visa.

There is an application process in getting a visa but obviously it is questionable how 'robust' this process is.

I think there are people in Bulgaria and Romania who could add great value to our economy and society however we need to sort out the shambles that is the benefits system and be quite clear that this country is not about getting a free ride (which to be fair is something some British people also need to realise).

The world does not owe anybody a living so if you want to live a good life then you work hard for it and earn it - simple. I just wish our government would realise that.

It appears that anyone will be allowed in I gather they are not even going to check for criminal records. I don't even like to think what is going to happen to this country if something is not done to stop it. It is pure madness. Already housing is an issue I live in the country where housing is very expensive and ordinary people are on the minimum wage. Some of them have been on the housing list for a long time, new housing association houses now go to immigrants over the heads of the local people. Apparently this is on instructions by the Government and councils are not allowed to object! You couldn't make it up!

The government is still debating on this topic, but are thinking of starting a work visa/permit scheme, much like the Highly Skilled Migrant Workers (HSMW) scheme that already exists, and is applied for non EU members, eg Australia, South Africa.
But this bill has not yet been passed, and until then, EU members will be allowed to move and work freely in and out of UK.

Yes they will be allowed to enter, the same as any EU resident. We also will be allowed into another EU country.

God bless Tony and Cherie for making it all possible! they're a pair of greedy self centred bstards.
