500 mg a day is enough. Your body probably won't even absorb that much at once. You would have to take 500 mg twice a day to get more absorption, but I think that's overkill. People here are telling you to eat right, but I imagine your doctor already told you this. Vitamin "C" boosts your immune system, and helps your circulation among other things, and I am living proof. When I was in my 20s my gums were bleeding after I brushed, and my dentist told me he suspected Periodontal disease,(gum disease) and he sent me to a Periodontist, a specialist in this field. After opening up my gums to alleviate the disease, he told me that because my gums were prone to this disorder, brushing and flossing wasn't enough and told me to take at least 250 mg of vitamin "C" or I would lose my teeth from this disease. I started taking 250mg and later boosted it to 500mg. My gums stopped bleeding not long after this, and the bleeding never has returned. I am 70 yrs old now and still have all my teeth, and no periodontal disease has ever returned.

Let's Eat Right To Keep Fit by Adelle Davis devotes an entire chapter to this important vitamin and its functions in the body which are legion. Your need for it can vary widely depending on the stress you have to deal with. 60-70 mg daily will prevent scurvy under normal stresses. More is required if you are ill or are stressed.

500 mg per day as a supplement should be sufficient. You will get some Vitamin C from your diet as well. Vitamin C is good for many bodily functions. It can help with oral care and prevent bruising. I would suggest taking a powdered form if possible and mix it with juice. You will get a higher absorbtion rate if you do.

You don't have to think about this if you eat fruit, vegetables. Meat, alcohol and too much vitamin B destroys vitamin c. Just be a vegetarian.

its not how much you need, your body will what it needs and get rid of the rest, its the lack of that causes the problems, if you don`t eat right, a least take a one a day vitamin. you don`t want a vitamin deficiency.

Keeps your skin looking good. Some people swear by about 1000mg per day. If you take a lot of fresh fruits and greens, you should not worry about deficiency. Most people don't eat enough fruits and they drink a lot of soda which kills Vit C.
