Every Sunday I cook a nice Sunday dinner like my grandma used to make :) We never had Spaghetti or riblets on Sunday, because Sunday is when you do it big, but I’m tired of having the same thing. I usually make Macaroni and Cheese, Candy Yams, Collard Greens/Cabbage and 2 kinds of meat. (this past Sunday was chicken and stew beef). I need some fresh ideas for nice Sunday meals where I won’t have to cook again until Tuesday or Wednesday. Only real cooks answer please…

So many great answers. I really was considering making the ham and a chicken before I posted the question. But some of theses sides sound really good. I'm having a hard time picking a best answer!

My all time Sunday favorite is to put a nice beef roast in the slow cooker along with quartered pot., baby carrots and onions. Season with Dales or Moores seasoning or just a packet of onion soup mix and let it cook while I'm at Church. You walk in the door to the most wonderful smell. Then I usually do some quick peas (or do fresh or frozen blackeyes or field peas on Saturday) and a nice Salad and maybe even a quick banana pudding. Depending on how large your Roast is and how many folk you are feeding, this lasts my family a couple of meals.

Cook a ham, potato salad, quick yeast rolls, fruit salad, fresh cream corn (frozen kind), and if you want a second meat, a turkey breast. All of this can be re-heated through Tuesday or Wednesday.

Try my recipe for slow roasted shoulder of pork:

http://www.gourmet-food-revolution.com/roast-pork-shoulder-recipe.html

For the average family, there will be plenty enough left over for another meal or two.

As a tip, I like to reheat it the next day by carving the cold joint and pouring some hot gravy over it. Simply cover the dish and reheat in a hot oven for about 20 minutes. It's almost like having the Sunday dinner all over again!!

Enjoy.

Maybe some stuffed cabbage rolls, or some homemade potato soup. I like to cook extra to save time during the week too. Also some hearty chili with cheese.

You could try a prime rib roast w/ a basic garlic rub.
Baked potato's or homemade scalloped potato's.
Corn on the cob and/or fresh spring mix salad.
Of course an espignole sauce.
Homemade dinner rolls or croissants.
Bread pudding w/ a homemade wild turkey carmel sauce.
Alot of work but worth it.

Homemade Soup and fresh French Bread..Yummy...Homemade chicken soup - but you don't have to be sick to deserve or enjoy it - you do, so do! Good for body and soul!"

INGREDIENTS:
1 (3 pound) whole chicken
4 carrots, halved
4 stalks celery, halved
1 large onion, halved
water to cover
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
Put the chicken, carrots, celery and onion in a large soup pot and cover with cold water. Heat and simmer, uncovered, until the chicken meat falls off of the bones (skim off foam every so often).
Take everything out of the pot. Strain the broth. Pick the meat off of the bones and chop the carrots, celery and onion. Season the broth with salt, pepper and chicken bouillon to taste, if desired. Return the chicken, carrots, celery and onion to the pot, stir together, and serve.

Fabulous Homemade Bread

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup warm water
3 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1/4 cup bread flour
1 tablespoon white sugar
2 cups quick cooking oats
2 cups whole wheat flour
4 1/2 cups warm water
1 1/2 tablespoons salt
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup vegetable oil
10 cups bread flour

DIRECTIONS:
In the mixing bowl of an electric mixer, stir together 1/2 cup warm water, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/4 cup bread flour, and yeast. Let grow for about 5 minutes. It will bubble almost immediately.
Measure oats, 4 1/2 cups warm water, whole wheat flour, salt, 2/3 cup sugar, and 2/3 cup oil into the mixing bowl. Mix on low speed with a dough hook for 1 to 2 minutes. Increase speed slightly, and begin adding bread flour 1/2 to 1 cup at a time until dough pulls away from sides of bowl. Humidity determines how much flour you need before the bread pulls away from the edge of the bowl. It is normal for the dough to be sticky.
Place dough in an oiled bowl, and turn to coat the surface. Cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Divide dough into 6 pieces. Shape loaves, and place in greased 8 x 4 inch pans. Let rise until dough is 1 inch above rim of pans, usually 1 hour.
Bake at 350 degrees F ( 175 degrees C) for 35 minutes, or until tops are browned. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, and then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
