I'm asking because i'm thinking about buying a child day care center, and hiring people to work there for me. Is this a good idea. And most importantly will i be making a good profit from this.
How do i go about doing this?
Pls let me know & how much can i charge per child?
thanks

It depends on where you live, whether it's part-time of full-time day care, the age range of the children, how much money has been invested in the center (is it fancy or low budget), whether it is home-based or in a commercial zone, whether meals are provided, and whether it is government subsidized. There are a lot of factors to consider. The first step would be a LOT of research with day care centers in your area. Make up a questionnaire and take it around to interviews.

I've been working in a daycare for years and recently I have also considered opening up my own daycare. I have been researching this for months now, reading about regulations, requirements, etc.

Here in Massachusetts, you have to make sure that you have at least 35 sq. feet per child inside and 75 sq. feet per child outside. The daycare I work at charges 228/wk. for infants and 180/wk. for preschool age. If you are going to accept vouchers from the state for low income families keep in mind that you usually don't get the full tuition amount.

Our assistants get paid $8/hr. to start and certified teachers start at $10/hr. You only need to have 1 certified teacher per room if you are a center. If you have a home daycare you are the only one who needs certification. The maximum amount of children that you can have in the home is 10 and you are required to have an assistant with more than 6. The state also counts your own children if they are not school age.

Hope this helps and good luck!

depends on ages, programs, and states. It also depends on what you have to offer, extras..

I used to work for one and got 1/2 off day care.
That would have been about $40 per week then.

Now ppl pay like $100 week. or $45 morning and afternoon care before/after school.

I have a Friend who has one in her house and charges like $200 a week but she has a lot to offer, and deals with wealthy ppl.

You have to take child education classes, and be licensed by the state.

I think you have to have a heart for kids, and not so much wanting to make a big profit. You need to pay/a nd treat the teachers well in order to keep them.

Hey great idea i think you are heading in the right direction cause there are so many people that just don't care about children these days GLAD TO SEE THAT U DO. First of all i would call to other day cares and see what they charge that way once you set a fee you will have a guidline as what NOT TO GO OVER FOR EXAMPLE IF most places charge between $50-100 you don't go over that 100 mark got me ? !! good next call the courthouse cause most places you need license to watch any children in a home of more than 6 children i believe per household not sure about your state but that's what it would run in these southern states. You will also need to put an ad in local and other newspapers for those employees and YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK AND RECHECK THOSE BACKGROUND OF THOSE THAT YOU HIRE TO MAKE SURE you are covered with the safety of the children ( TOO MANY WACOS OUT THERE BE CAREFUL WHO HIRE )and YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE INSURANCE FOR YOUR PLACE TO COVER THOSE CHILDREN AND THE EMPLOYEES OTHERWISE YOU could be in for BEING SUED BY THE PARENTS CAUSE OF THEIR CHILD GETTING HURT WHILE on your premises and those employees too lots to cover but YOU GOT TO COVER IT ALL. I am not a day care person or employee myself but I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF THINGS HAPPEN and heard of things on t.v and newspaper too.

Do research of day cares, prices may vary by ages and times that the children will be in the daycare. Having a 24 hour daycare is wonderful because it is reaching to all shifts worked by parents, it is best to know the laws and have the appropriate license before opening a daycare, make sure all your employees are trained in CPR, and dealing with children but basically go and visit other day cares to see an overview of the day cares to see what you may or may not want to do in your day care because a day care is big load

It just depends on where you are located and what age range you are willing to take. Also if you offer transportation to and from school, or if you will only take children in the school district that the center is in. Typically for infants it is like $150 to $175 per week per child. Toddlers, about $150 per week. School aged kids for before and after school care, about $100.

It greatly depends on the age of the child, what you offer, and where you are located. I work in an infant room in Minneapolis, and our center charges $83/DAY for infants. It lessens as they get older...I think the preschool rooms are around $50/day. This is for a center; I imagine home daycare varies.

The price per week ranges, but anywhere from 100 to 600 week where I live. I think its a good idea, you contact your local DHS office and they can help you get certified. Im sure they have all the info you need. Good Luck

Use the site below and compare rates from multiple daycares. It also has a how to start a daycare page with info. Also, there is a link for individual states licensing and regulations. Give it a try.
