try going to walmart and go to the pet supply section...they have big rolls of stuff that just like cardboard that are fairly cheap to buy. I own 3 cats and they use to shred my toilet paper right off of the roll. I am not sure what is in the cardboard roll but the cats love it, anytime they are feeling anxious they go to the roll and start chewing, clawing, and playing all over it. I have not had the problem with toilet paper and counter hopping since then. the rolls last about a month or two depending on how many cats and how playful they are.. The only bad thing is you still are stuck cleaning up cardboard, but its' much cheaper than buying new papertowels every other day. I hope this helps you out

Try the old spray bottle filled with water trick. If your cat gets a squirt every time he is doing something that you don't like, he will get the point. Never punish a cat for bad behavior in the same fashion as you would a dog. A cat will actually become more aggressive and more of a problem. Also, you might want to invest in a couple of cat toys to stimulate your cat when you are away. He might just be acting out because he is bored. Good luck, I'm sure your cat will settle down in no time.

I know its not funny, but my cat does the same thing with paper towels and toilet paper. And has learnt not to jump on to the benches.
They like the feeling of the paper on their paws, but boy do they make a mess. Solution is put paper towel out of the way.
As for the benches fill a empty clean spray bottle with water and a drop of lemon juice, shake and spray cat with it when caught on the bench, and say no, and down, usually 2-3 sprays will let puss you mean business, I only need to place the bottle near me when doing some thing and puss behaves. Works really well, if you have a cat that scratches the furniture. If bottle is not handy I make a pitzz noise and she jumps.

First off, put the glasses and paper towels away. Then get a squirt bottle, and when he gets on the counter squirt him with water. Don't let him see you do it. It's like discipline from the sky - he'll think he's going to get squirted even when you're not there. Keep doing it and it'll sink in. It worked for my cats anyway, except my one little freak who loves water.
Good luck!

Next time you catch the cat on the counter, put a small treat on the floor and he will jump right off. If the cat has a "special" place where he usually jumps up, put a mouse trap there! It won't hurt him, and he will soon get the message. Try hiding little treats around the house, only on the floor, and get rid of the stuff on the counter that he enjoys getting into. He will soon learn that his hunting skills are best used at ground level.

Sounds like a typical cat. If you wanted something mellow, you should have got a dog. But seriously, you can train the cat. I have found that a squirt gun gets their attention pretty easily. They also just need certain things they can tear up like a box, some newspaper, get creative and make toys for them. A catnip filled mouse on a fishing pole is good for hours of fun. I think you have a perfectly normal cat. They do crave attention, though.

I had a counter cat. I trained him to jump up to the top of the refrigerator. They love to be up high. I put a treat up there and then praised her for being such a good jumper. Also double sided sticky tape on the counters can work. Cats don't like sticky stuff on their paws.

Try a spray bottle or squirt gun with water..if this doesn't bother him add a little lemon juice to the water. I have a cat that doesn't mind the water, but hates the lemon juice! Just squirt him when you catch him on the counter. It shouldn't take but a couple of shots to break the habit!

I'll tell what NOT to do. Once I put some masking tape sticky side up because someone told me that it was a good lesson to teach them not to get up on the counter, they wouldn;t ever want the sticky on their paws again.
Well worked alright, he freaked out so bad, he fell off the counter and broke his leg and it needed to be pinned surgically.
That was the most expensive roll of masking tape I ever bought and I FELT TERRIBLE about it.
