That's not what the Bible says.
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Genesis 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Why would we do this....didn't our brother in Christ Paul suffer in the roman prisons (exactly like prisoners in the USA right NOT). What does the bible say about prison and prisoners....Old Testament says an eye for an eye...Jesus says render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and go God what is God's....The old testament (God's law) is where our government gets most of it's philosophies on ruling the masses by the masses in a free society full of choices, responsibilities, accountabilities and consequences. Our country (far from perfect) is still the fairest and most prudent in the world. We do not wield the capital punishment sword lightly but when behavior is so deserving it is done.
Why shouldn't one that takes God's gift of life from others be granted the same, albeit more humane, fate?
David was not spared the consequences of the murder of his mistress' husband.
If you know the punishment prior to the act....why should you be spared the consequences of your actions.....I guess we should forgive all speeding violations as well....and the dude that stole the television and got caught....he shouldn't bear those consequences either right?....
Don't do the CRIME...if you can't do the time...or give up your life for taking someone else's!!

Actually, scripture tells us we are to honour the laws of our government since every govt is instituted by God. Capital punishment is not murder in the sense that the commands forbid murder. American law already requires humane treatment; those in foreign countries have governments that make their laws also. It would be nice if they listened to our petitions for humane treatment, but they generally don't. Even if our government would try to force the issue it would mean war with many other nations... I'm not sure that's the better of two evils. God bless you.

What about the victims that have suffered at the hands of these prisoners? Don't you think they need the support? Yes i agree keep them alive because killing them would be letting them off lightly, while alive they have to live with what they have done on their conscience every day for the rest of their lives, and that's a far worse punishment than killing them so for that reason i agree. I'm an atheist anyway but that's how i feel like it or not.

The Bible says to follow the law of the land. It doesn't say for Christians to try to change to law to suit us. So if capital punishment is a law in the US, you should respect it.

As a Catholic Christian, I agree with you completely.
It is beyond me how someone can call themselves a follower of Jesus and say that they are in support of capital punishment. I guess Jesus should have let the woman caught in adultery be stoned to death.
Yes, "Minister", there are people in this world who are evil and must be removed from society. You lock them away for the rest of their lives, but you do not kill them.
The death penalty denies the fact that each and every one of us is made in the image of God and that God wants EVERYONE to be saved. Putting someone to death is giving yourself a right that only God has, thereby declaring yourself God.

I will jump on your band wagon just as soon as there are no capital crimes. Capital punishment is something that is needed in certain cases. Sorry, but I will NOT stop calling myself a follower of Jesus. Now...how do you feel about abortion? I find it strange that many who are very opposed to capital punishment have no problem with abortion.

I think you are, because i dont think its fair that 2 people can make the same crime and get a death sentence but one of those people just happens to have a lot of money and Bribes them to let him get of easy. Even if those people commit a murder, WE would be committing one to by giving them the electric chair of lethal injection.

the bible say that the world would get worst as the earth gets older
we do not let the evil of this world distract us from the joy to come in the next
Our job is to spread the good news of the knigdom of heaven
not to make heaven on earth
Peace my friend

Yes, why approve of killing if your religion is so peaceful? What happened to only God having the right to give or take life?
