The majority of people I know, myself included, have always dumped or been dumped over the phone, by letter, or via text.

Do you think that the modern age has promoted this with the use of mobile phones etc? Or is it a growing lack of respect for other people? Or a greater increase in the pursuit of things being easy i.e. wanting everything quickly and without effort or pain/sacrifice

I have dumped and been dumped while being face-to-face with someone. Granted, only a couple situations come to mind and the rest have been via phone or text. I think the lack of respect has something to do with it, but not as much as being a coward. If you're going to dump someone, don't be a coward and do it to their face. It's the least you can do for someone you were suppose to care about.

The art of being dumped by Text, Letter and Phone avoids the confrontation, it's the cowards way out. When I was younger I used to see a guy who didn't have a mobile, I was quite shy at the time and so he quickly lost interest in me as he was just out for the physical.
Sooooo...as you can imagine I was quite suprised when I realised that he had used his Mum's mobile to text me to tell me it wasn't working out between us.......

A few months later I suddenly came into my personality and became really confident and out to get my revenge, he now had a mobile phone, I led him along all the way to the point I said he would get what he wanted and (get this!....) said I would text him later when we could meet up for it.........later on I texted with not the arrangements, but you guessed it a dumping text!!

People just souldnt be able to get away from it, you should have the decency to come face to face and give your reasons.

Taking the easy way out has become far too easy with growing technology, and there is a high level of cowardice on the side of the dumper aswell to factor in - they don't want to have to see the face of the other person whilst they are wrpping their heart out!

I've only ever dumped someone over the phone once. All other times was in person - everybody deserves that much.

Most ladies, when I knew I was doing the "breaking up" or "setting boundaries or parameters" of our relationship, I did it face to face. Although finding it way more nerve wracking for me, I found it better than the impersonal breakup over the telephone, through letters, or via computer. Because I still at times wonder how it would've turned out if my ex-fiancee at the time would've ended it the way she did.....IF she would've done it face to face. And "Yes," I do believe it is a "Easy way out" for the person doing the "Breaking up!" Also, I tend to agree that it is a lack of respecting the other person's feelings and emotional make-up. (But I can also understand the NEED to use those methods when in an UNHEALTHY relationship).

Advance technology r here to stay but it depends on the end user - u n me, to use it wisely or to harm people..
For me, i had a one -sided love where my ex only wan stay in the room n have sex- nothing else. When i had hurt more than enough, i wrote him a long sms 3 pages, telling how i felt, how he treat my love etc... After tat, i switch off my hp when he tried call me.
So it's depends on the situation. If i met him face to face, he may have sweet talked me n i would hurt longer.
Ps: if he dumped u instead of u dumped him, just tell urself tat kind of guy is not worth ur love n definitely there r much better guys out there.. Wish u true love

I got dumped face to face last month, which was very rare in this age.
I think the rise in the use of multimedia has led to an increase in impersonality and the pursuit of immediate results/actions from communications. Either that or nobody has the guts to say things directly to people anymore.

I try to do it face to face, its only when I know I'm being a complete a hole that I do it by an easier means. I've been dumped face to face as well and it really doesn't make it any more an enjoyable experience. Listen to dry your eyes mate by the streets I love his description of being dumped....spot on.

I've been dumped once and it was face to face. It was awkward and painful and humiliating but I kinda respect the guy for doing that rather than texting or just ignoring me.

Yes, loads of times when I was younger. Its a show of respect to dump someone face to face, anything else is really not on I think.
