when i was young, i used to think that sprinkling salt on my food would cool it down, wierd i know and unhealthy, but did anyone else used to think that or was it just me, also iv just burnt my tongue, is there any way to stop it hurting for the next few days?

I find now that if you put salt on soemthing hot like chilli con carne it doesn't seem so hot in taste - but I wouldn't know about temperature wise.

ambosol also works on the tongue as a topicl anelgisic....Never heard about the salt

My cousins thought that salt would cool their food. They also believed that if they couldn't see the salt, it wasn't working so they would pile it on until their food became inedible!

I'm not sure how to ease the pain, sorry.
