I have been diagnosed with depression but no body knows that i don't eat properly except a few of my friends who noticed i wasn't eating at school- i am a 14 yr old female and slightly over weight. I don't want to tell my parents for other reasons but my friends are starting to ask teachers for help that i don't want!! Or Do I? i am not sure- IS THERE SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG?

The fact that you are suffering from depression could explain why you don't eat often; and because your stomach has become used to eatting very little it has trouble dealling with a larger amount of food. It's why people who have starved themselves for days should start slowly, else they will make themselves sick.

I suggest that you accept help from some kind of medical professional; perhaps your GP or a doctor at a free health clinic. You will need support, but if you don't wish to include your parents then at least ask your friends for support.

Georgia, what you do is really bad. What you do now is really starving your body for most of the day. This actually puts your metabolic system into "survival mode". This means your food intake will be converted to energy, then tries to keep it from burning up. What you should do is to start a regular food intake, like breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, then dinner. All meals should only be small, but importantly they should all be taken. This way your metabolic rate will normalise, and your body can function normally. Also try to eat healthy stuff like fruit and vegetables, lean meat, nuts etc. Avoid junk foods, deep fried stuff and too many sweets. You might find it hard at first, might not lose weight instantly, but perseverance will pay off, believe me. I wish you all the success you deserve.

You are prolly on a course to having an eating disorder. Not eating wont do you any good coz your body needs the nutrients from your food intake so the body can function properly. Tell your parents so that they can seek help or if you dont want them to know, go to your school nurse and maybe she/he can help you with your problem

Yes, you may be developing an eating disorder. It sounds like you're in the early stages. You should seek out professional help because if it goes on, it can kill you, either by starvation or by denying your body the proper defenses for other diseases. Get help, please. I still remember Karen Carpenter, an extremely talented singer who had a similar problem.
