Are bananas good if you're on a diet?

I like bananas since they are filling and I like them. The trick to a diet is to find foods that you like that are satisfying and low calorie. Bananas work for me. Some people knock them because they are high glycemic, but what those people ignore is that it is the total glycemic load that counts not just one food. Since people eat bananas along with other food, they are digested differently than if they were eaten alone.

Bananas are not high calorie like some of these people are saying. I've been keeping track of my caloric intake for 1 year now. A small granola bar has around 150 calories and it's not filling at all to me. A medium sized banana contains 80 calories, that is a perfect amount for a snack. I have one almost every day for my morning snack. I find that bananas fill me up more than other fruits and they are really good for you. Another favorite of mine are grapes.
I would like to add that you should only have one a day, not 8. They still contain sugar, like all fruits, so you do not want to overdo them. I have 2-3 servings of fruit a day.

Not really... I am on a diet and as for bananas.. I can only have one a day.. one half in the morning and one half in the afternoon.. They are too full of sugars, etc.. When on a diet, I like to choose a fruit that I can get filled up on best and that is the apple or the melon just to name two...Bananas and oranges are not.. Oh yes.. blue berries(which I love) are OK as well as a grapefruit

Bananas are hesvy on carbs and vitamin B so excellent if you work out or as a snack in the morning/afternoon. (also good for hangovers). If you are strictly dieting and not excercising I would try an alternative fruit.

Bananas are very good for you but are higher in calories than say apples but if you count them up in your daily allowance then that's fine. The easiest diet is to eat normally but reduce the calory intake to around 1400 and take exercise.

I was going to answer this but you seem to have had some excellent advice and all I can do is wish you all the best. I guess it's like everything else, they're alright in moderation. If one a day is best then I wouldn't have any more than that. I find grapefruit juice an excellent part of my daily food intake.

Just be careful how many you eat!!!!

I ate 8 bananas a day (for my dinner) for 2 weeks. I put on a load of weight and had really bad flatulence.

Yes because bananas are full of Vit B and they can also boost your metabolism. Don't eat bananas if you have heart problems they can be known to give you palpitations.

It depends. They are high calorie and high carb as far as fruit goes, but a heck of a lot less so than a chocolate bar or similar.

A good source of potassium and other nutrients..their benefits far outweigh the calorific content, which isn't so bad if you have one each day.
