I'm renovating (in Australia) and have been using Dulux in the past. However the local paint shop has talked about Solver Paint and reckons it's pretty good and it's a lot cheaper. This is for interior walls and ceilings and in flat or satin. I'm worried about paint density as some brands make water look thick !!

You're correct to be concerned. I've applied thousands of gallons of paint, and offer this. The bargain brands have various colors, and look good in the can, but have less pigment and polymers in the mix.

I rarely use FLAT, opting for SATIN almost exclusively now. The reason: Flat is more porous, with less agents in it allowing "Cleanability"

Dulux should satisfy you, and not knowing it's cost in pounds or dollars I say spend the extra... Or regret it after.

Hi there,
I have 30 years painting experience and have tired all brands out there. The best 2 I have found by far are:
1. Benjamin Moore
2. ParaPaints
They are by far worth the extra cost. The cheaper paints end up costing the same or more in the end because you have to do more coats to get proper coverage - not to mention how much time it takes to recoat 2, 3 or even 4 times with the cheaper ones. The Home Depot brand (Behr) is just not a bargain when you compare the quality. Usually, Benjamin Moore and Para will cover in one coat.

As for chooing flat or satin, that depends on the room. For a living or dining room with few clean ups requried, flat is fine. For a kitchen or bathroom where you need to wipe down alot, then go for at least a satin or glossier. Keep in mind that if your surface is even or has imprefections, gloss with make the imperfections show more. Flat is very hard to wipe down though.

Hope this helps!

All the major manufactures of paint products in Australia have a range of different grades of paint with the top being ultra premium. With dulux its 101, Taubmans its Livingproof Wattyl is ID, I am not sure what the name of the Solver version.

If you are looking for a paint that will give a good finish is durable and easy to keep clean, Taubmans Livingproof is outstanding and is generally cheaper then Dulux. You will however always have problems keeping your walls clean if you are using flat paint and i would highly recommend you use low sheen or higher on your walls especially if you have children.

For the best paint ever... I would suggest Behr at Home depot. It is thick and nice to apply. I know this because I've used GALLONS of it and found it to be very good. Also, Sherwin Williams has some good paint, but it can get a bit runny if not mixed well.
Good Luck!
