Help to identify a grain called obbenagropen.?

Question

My greatgrandmother from Kiev used it in her cookery to thicken soups among other things

It may not be spelled obbenagropen exactly

It could be either Yiddish or some local language from out that way

I'm guessing it might be potato starch. My Bubby was a fabulous cook. I can still smell the challahs she baked every Friday for 'shabbas'. Some memories last forever, don't they. Shalom.
