I think Lao Tzu was a crazy man.

I also think he was enlightened in a way that most of us aren't ever going to get to.

I see it as being truthful. Our needs to survive are pretty basic yet in our materialist world we always desire more. Desire is the root cause of human suffering-learning to be content with what you have is the key to attaining bliss and happiness in life.
