I used to drink around 300 units of alcohol a week and ever since I gave up drinking I have felt as if I am reproductivly infertile. I don't know why I feel this way but I have felt like this for over a year now. Also I have no sex drive - I have not even mastrubated for over a year now. I doubt I will ever have sex again but for some reason I would be realy upset if I could not have children (even though I don't want children). How likly is it that I am infertile. I am 25, drank very heavily for 6 years and smoked for a year when I was 17.

I gave up drinking over a year ago. I do not take medication at all. Over the last decade I have probably had less than a dozen asprins in total. I did not even take painkillers after I had surgery on my ankle.
I am not currently suffering from depression.

I know a doctor could do a test and I know the effects of alcohol on fertility. What I really want to know is simply do you think YES I AM INFERTILE or NO I AM NOT INFERTILE based upon what I have already mentioned.

There's really only one way to find out - talk to your doctor about a fertility test. You don't smoke now, which is great; you know you drank too much and I hope you accept the possible consequences of that but don't give up hope! I understand what you mean about wanting the capability of having children but not actually wanting them now - that's understandable - I've known lesbians have similar feelings. How long have you not been drinking for? Are you on other medication - antidepressants for instance; some medication can really halt your sex drive. Or could it be psychological? Maybe there is some link between your excessive drinking and some kind of sexual experience. I think you know where I'm leading there. I know from experience that it is very important for a woman to know she could have children and really the only way to find out is to talk to your doctor.

I have never heard of smoking and drinking interfering with fertility when stopped. and you don't define "units"
You will have to get this checked.
I would strongly suppose that your body and mind are still going through changes from stopping drinking. I hear it is very tough on the body and the mind. After awhile some people (men and women) only feel sexy when they are high. We can hope that your body and mind will adjust back, and it probably will.
But you can search the net. Very interesting things are out there ..like tubal ligation sometimes causes a drop in sex drive in women by killing the overies -- rare but it happens and isn't supposed to.

Kudos to you for stopping such destructive bahaviors. I guess they only way to know if you are infertile is to have a fertility work up done by your ob/gyn. Usually they don't do this until you have been trying for almost a year. As for alcohol making you infertile, Curtail alcohol consumption. A glass of wine is just fine. But even in the short term, drinking can lead to abnormal sperm production; women may suffer menstrual disorders.
Smoking alters a woman’s estrogen metabolism, increases the risk of tubal (ectopic) pregnancy, boosts the rate of miscarriage, among other things. Male smokers have significantly lower sperm counts and a higher incidence of abnormally shaped sperm than non-smokers.

Honey, I have always been a drinker/smoker... I was told i couldnt even have kids and I now have a perfect 3 year old. Sex drive and reproduction are very complex issues. Go start with a chat to your gp and a few basic blood tests to see where your body is, then take it step by step. Stressing bout that stuff makes it worse.

You should see an ob/gyn and they can do tests to see if you are ok.
The alcohol would only really affect your liver and the smoking would affect your lungs.
Do you get your periods regularly? That is a small indication of fertility.

I don't think that being a drunk makes you sterile although it does inhimbit your libido. You could be suffering from the effects still and it will take time to get it all out of your system.

I think you might be worrying over nothing but get some specialist help maybe councilling would help but speak to your doctor and ask to be reffered to someone if your not happy with what he/she says and above all try to think positive.

Probably not, but talk to your doctor and get a sperm test. While you are there, talk to him about your lack of sex-drive, he may have some advice.
Good Luck!

Well, you may not be infertile but you may have problem in delivering your baby or may even cause certain defects on the baby.
