go to toilet and have a dump always seems to be the best method, although you can try eating prunes, all-bran, oranges, orange juice, or senna tabs work as does andrews liver salts

Be like the constipated mathematician and work it out with a pencil.

Or drink a lot of water, eat lots of nuts (not roast or salted), fibrous stuff (fruit, veg - skins on, bran etc).

If you do try laxatives make sure you follow the instructions and don't overdo them, they can take some time to work.

I find about 8 pints of Guinness does the trick!

You could try a laxative such as senna but these are only for short term use. If you are bothered by long term constipation, try and take more fivre in your diet (fruit, veg, whole grain bread/cereals etc) and make sure you are drinking plenty fluids as this helps bulk out the stools and make them pass more easily. Also, if you tend to wait before you empty your bowels, try and get out of this habit as it can lead to constipation.

Eat foods high in fiber and drink fruit juice (prune juice works best). If you are very constipated, you may need to take a laxative and a stool softener. If none of these work, you need to go to your doctor, you may have an impaction.

See your GP and ask for a prescription for Fybogel. You can buy it over the counter from the chemist . You mix it in water and take it twice a day. It works!
It is miserable to be constipated. Good luck!

if you take pain pills, they are all constipating. when choosing a laxative make sure to look for the ingredient senna or sennosides versus bisacodyl. that one gives you painful cramps.
