40 tortured bodies found in Baghdad .

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The bodies of 40 men who were shot and had their hands and feet bound have been found in the capital over the past 24 hours, police said Thursday.

All the victims showed signs of torture, police Lt. Thayer Mahmoud said. They were dumped in several neighborhoods in both eastern and western Baghdad, he said.

The top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell, on Wednesday said murders and executions are currently the main cause of civilian deaths in Baghdad. "We ( Military ) are doing the best we can but we are having a tough time. The enemy is very strong and we thought they were dead enders like the President said 3 years ago. But they ( enemy ) are strong and tough as nails.

Much of the violence has been attributed to death squads, many of which are thought to be offshoots of mainly Shiite militias.

Also Thursday, two Iraqi soldiers were were killed and there is no end in sight.

Your question is about as inane as asking why police can't stop bank robberies or hospitals can't stop heart attacks. Ordinarily I avoid your ridiculous questions for the incredibly low caliber of the discussion they generate, but this one deserves a rebuttal.

Iraq is in the midst of a civil war that is long overdue. The pressures of dictatorship only kept the various grievances between extremists in each of the major religious and ethnic groups from coming to a head. Iraq is dominated in large part by both tribal concerns and along religious fault lines, both of which have existed for centuries before America was even discovered.

Asides from your complete inability to provide source attribution for the quotes (which you evidently doctored), your only motivation in this is to discredit the American military for your own vicarious pleasures. The American military is hindered both by an unwillingness to resort to the same sort of repression under the Saddam regime (constant lockdowns, curfews, taking of hostages from tribes, mass imprisonment, frequent executions) that would bring a cessation of overt hostilities. Cessation of violence through such measures is not the same thing as peace.

As for the "much of the violence has been attributed to death squads", which you claim are majority Shia militia, you have absolutely no understanding of either the facts on the ground or a willingness to learn. Thus, constructive discussion becomes impossible for someone like you, and changing the course of foreign policy in the Middle East becomes anathema. Who in their right mind wants to actually listen to a shrill, whiny, illliterate nutcase such as yourself? And how is it that you can believe, if your cause (whatever it may be) is right, that it is best served by immature antics and mindless grandstanding?

You aren't "erudite" by any means. Every single one of your questions lacks both serious scholarship and insight into events from which you have great distance and derive no understanding. Any rational human being long ago would have died from shame. That you continue to persist means only that you relish the role of playing the Fool.

Your right to be an idiot is also protected by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Viet Nam taught us that our women folk and adult males individuals interior the sphere could make blunders, a number of them criminal. If the President were paying interest lower back then quite of evading genuine accountability he would be a greater robust chief today, yet he for sure ignored all the classes we've been compelled to income. That being mentioned, the Marines at the instant are not on trial. a team of Marines are on trial, however the sins of a few do not dishonour the various till they are excused. how most of the terrorists have been positioned on trial in Islamic states? at the same time as our strikes at the instant are not perfect, we would desire to constantly not settle for the assertion they are subsequently all evil. even whilst ruled by potential of a coward and a cheat the united states is a brilliant u . s .. We purely have stupid voters, it is all.

Again... the additions of erudite's warped opinions inside of a copyrighted article... but this time also he has omissions to take out key aspects of the article in an attempt to fool the gullible into believing his spew... also adding a completely bogus quote that NEVER came from this military general..... erudite is stepping lower and lower all the time

The addition and false quote....

"and there is no end in sight."
-false quote- ""We ( Military ) are doing the best we can but we are having a tough time. The enemy is very strong and we thought they were dead enders like the President said 3 years ago. But they ( enemy ) are strong and tough as nails."

The part left OUT of the first paragraph...
"Also, a car bomb killed five people and wounded another 34 after it exploded near a restaurant."

Unlike the habitual liar, erudite, I will link the ACTUAL article to this thread..... report this activity by erudite any time you see him doing it....

there is a big difference in Military and police.

Military being extremely arrogant believes that they can do a job better than others. And then they make a mess of it.

And now that they have made a mess of it ,it will take longer for Iraq to come back to normalcy ( Afghanistan is an example ).

The first thing to bring back normalcy is to hand over total power to civilian government...not one propped up by military.

I can't believe what im reading here. Im in the middle east right now!!! I know whats going on over here. the military is not tired not strained. we arent tryin to be police. and for the most part the soldiers and marines over here understand whats going on and why this country needs our help, but there are a few over here that do whine and cry, just like you but atleast they are helping, you arent doing anything but bringing the morale of our troops down. when you posting stuff like this bad mouthing the same military that protects your freedom to do so, just remember they have access to what your writing. Your not helping. How about a little support regardless if you think we need to be there or not.

First of all...they are fighting an unpopular war. Secondly...the troop strength is very low compared to troop strength in Kashmir. Also...lot of the soldiers there are not regulars...hence they don't get the proper training to fight terrorism. The American soldiers should be taught to fight the terrorists with sensitivity. U don't see bombs falling in Kashmir. Yes...the situation is different...but they could use a different strategy since the one they were pursuing have failed.

No doubt the deaths and torture are awful and regrettable. Still, if you can propose a way to stop it in it's tracks, I'm certain the Iraqi and US governments would love to talk to you.

Just because the US has the greatest army doesn not make it omnipotent.

There is no end in sight, you have too many factions. Islam is split and they will continue to kill each other whether we are there or not. Not until the Iraqi's themselves say enough is enough will the killing stop. You can't stop an enemy you can't id.

Bush underestimated and it was a total miscalculation. Well there are no WMD's to be found right? then what the hell are you still doing there? I have debated so much about this topic and i hate to hear pro-war people justifying this invasion.

40 years back USA was a superpower and everyone gotta bow to them but things are changing, japan, china, india are catching up pretty fast plus all those angered muslims around the world.

I would love to see India negotiating and Ordering USA to give up all the nuclear weopns they got. Pakistan should back India in this and codi rice should surrender pleading guilty of killing thosands of ppl in lebanon.

Since you listen to news, you should also know that our forces are short staffed and worn out. They are discouraged with the mess in Iraq; some have committed suicide - others are on anti-depressants. The strain is too much.
