I had a bad reaction to crabmeat soup once. I was told it contains penicillin which I am allergic to.

No, crabmeat does not contain penicillin. Penicillin is derived from a type of fungus. Like other shellfish, crab does contain many chemical compounds that are known to be allergens. Some are common to shellfish and some are specific to crab. You may be allergic to one or the other. Your doctor can give you an allergy test to determine for sure. You also may have had a reaction to spoiled seafood. Sometimes people who eat spoiled seafood have a reaction similar to that of food allergic people. See your doctor; food allergies are dangerous, and it's not because of penicillin!

penicillin is not just extracted from rotten meat and bacteria, it actually goes through a very long chemical process before it becomes medicine.
